Volvo has offered the first glimpse of its upcoming EX60, the all-electric counterpart to the XC60 SUV. Unveiled as a full-size clay model during the Volvo ES90 reveal event, the EX60 is set for an international debut in 2026.
Positioning in Volvo’s EV Lineup
The EX60 will be positioned between the EX40 and EX90 in Volvo’s expanding electric vehicle range. Unlike the EX90 and ES90, which are based on the SPA2 platform, the EX60 will adopt the next-generation SPA3 (Scalable Product Architecture), designed exclusively for electric vehicles.
SPA3 Platform and Charging Capabilities
Volvo’s SPA3 architecture promises significant advancements, including ultra-fast 800V charging, similar to the ES90, which can gain 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. According to Volvo’s technology chief, Anders Bell, the platform is “100 percent electric and 100 percent Volvo Cars,” distinguishing it from Geely’s shared platforms like SEA, which underpins the EX30. Over-the-air (OTA) software updates through Volvo’s Superset technology stack will further enhance the EX60’s functionality.
Mega-Casting for Greater Efficiency
A key innovation of the SPA3 platform is mega-casting, a production technique that allows large sections of the vehicle’s structure to be manufactured as a single unit. This reduces manufacturing complexity and costs, making the EX60 the first Volvo model to benefit from this efficiency-driven approach.
Volvo EX90 and EX30 India Plans
Volvo has confirmed that the EX90 and EX30 will arrive in India in 2025. The EX30 is being considered for local assembly, aligning with Volvo’s strategy of assembling all its vehicles domestically. Currently, Volvo offers the EX40 (₹56.10 lakh) and C40 Recharge (₹62.95 lakh) in India’s electric segment. While there is no official confirmation yet, Volvo may expand its EV lineup in India by introducing the EX60 in the future.
