Toyota is set to introduce the ninth-generation Camry, the XV80, to the Indian market by early 2025. First launched in India in 2002, the Camry has maintained a consistent presence as a low-volume yet reliable model. According to Toyota insiders, this upcoming version will continue to build on its strengths in comfort, efficiency, and dependability.
Platform and Powertrain Updates
The new Camry will remain based on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, equipped with an updated 227hp petrol-hybrid powertrain. As with previous models, the Camry will be assembled locally and offered exclusively as a hybrid, emphasizing fuel efficiency and backseat comfort. Expected to make its debut at the Bharat Mobility Show, it will appeal to buyers seeking a spacious, eco-friendly sedan.
Enhanced Design and Dimensions
With styling inspired by Lexus, the new Camry adopts a bold design, marked by an elongated nose with a Lexus-style “anvil” shape. The car is slightly longer than the current model but retains the same wheelbase, giving it a balanced look. Notable exterior features include a sleek, slot-like grille spanning between the headlamps and modern LED daytime running lights. The rear receives a refresh as well, with large ‘C’-shaped tail lights replacing the previous design, while the sides are enhanced with sharper character lines.
Interior Comfort and Advanced Features
The Camry’s reputation as a chauffeur-friendly sedan continues with rear-seat comforts like reclining, ventilated seats, and central controls for blinds. With a neatly organized cabin design, chrome accents enhance the dual-tone interior, while a larger screen with wireless Apple CarPlay modernizes the tech. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are also available, offering features like dynamic radar cruise control with curve speed reduction, lane departure alert with steering assist, pre-collision braking, and safe exit assist. A factory-fitted dash cam is available as an optional add-on.
Power and Efficiency Boosts
The Camry’s hybrid system, combining the petrol engine and electric motor, now delivers a stronger 227hp. Toyota claims a fuel efficiency of up to 25 kmpl—a notable improvement from the current model’s 19.1 kmpl. This boost in power and fuel economy could result in real-world mileage of over 20 kmpl, an impressive figure for a sedan of this size.
Positioned for Success
With an expected price of around ₹48 lakh, the new Camry enters a niche with limited competition, particularly appealing to buyers looking for an efficient, spacious, and refined hybrid sedan.
