Tata Motors has officially announced that the highly anticipated Tata Sierra will debut in the latter half of 2025. The SUV will be available with both all-electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrain options, as confirmed in the company’s recent investor presentation.
Sierra EV to Launch First, Followed by ICE Variant
In a phased rollout, the Sierra EV will hit the market first, with the ICE version following shortly thereafter. This launch strategy mirrors the approach Tata Motors used for the Curvv, where the electric variant launched in August 2024, followed by the ICE model in September.
Built on Tata’s Advanced ATLAS Platform
The Sierra is likely to be underpinned by Tata’s newly introduced ATLAS platform (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle), which supports various body styles, including SUVs, MPVs, and sedans. Designed with flexibility in mind, the platform can accommodate both EV and ICE powertrains, as well as 4×4 capability. If Tata incorporates a 4×4 system into the ICE Sierra, it will mark the brand’s first such offering since the Safari Storme, discontinued in 2020.
Sierra EV: Powered by Acti.EV Architecture
The all-electric Sierra is expected to leverage Tata’s Gen2 EV architecture, branded as Acti.EV. This platform is already used in models like the Punch EV and Curvv EV. While specifics are yet to be confirmed, the Sierra EV might feature a dual-motor setup, similar to the upcoming Harrier EV, potentially enabling an all-wheel-drive configuration.
Harrier EV to Precede Sierra
Before the Sierra’s arrival, Tata Motors is slated to launch the Harrier EV in early 2025. Both models are likely to share several mechanical components, further streamlining Tata’s EV portfolio.
With the Sierra’s combination of cutting-edge platforms and dual powertrain options, Tata Motors aims to strengthen its position in the competitive SUV segment.
