The highly anticipated Tata Sierra is set to make its comeback in both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions, with a launch expected later this year. While Tata Motors showcased a near-production Sierra EV at the 2023 Auto Expo, some design aspects remained conceptual—especially in the cabin. Now, a newly leaked design patent image offers the first glimpse of the production-ready Sierra EV’s interior.
Sierra EV Interior: A Modern Yet Familiar Design
The leaked image confirms that the Sierra EV’s cabin will stay largely true to its concept version, with a clean and futuristic design. A large central touchscreen—expected to be around 12 inches—blends seamlessly with the digital instrument cluster, creating a cohesive, high-tech display. The central AC vents appear more pronounced compared to the concept, while the side vents are neatly integrated into horizontal elements running across the dashboard. The familiar four-spoke steering wheel has also been retained.
The dashboard features a sculpted, layered design that adds depth and sophistication, and a centrally positioned speaker remains from the concept model. However, the distinctive moss inserts showcased earlier do not seem to have made it to production. Tata’s design chief, Martin Ulharik, has previously hinted that buyers may get customization options, including moss accents, mini flower vases for the door pads, fold-out tray tables, and ambient lamp shades.
Premium Lounge-Style Seating for Added Comfort
The Sierra EV is expected to be available in two seating configurations—a standard 5-seater and a more luxurious 4-seater lounge setup. The latter will feature ottoman-style reclining seats for rear passengers, enhancing comfort and exclusivity.
In terms of controls, the Sierra EV is likely to borrow the touch-sensitive climate control panel and drive selector lever from the upcoming Tata Curvv EV. The floating-style center console, seen in the concept, is expected to make it to the production model, offering additional storage beneath.
EV-Specific Cabin Design Unlike Its ICE Counterpart
Interestingly, the Sierra EV and ICE versions will have distinct interior layouts. While the ICE-powered Sierra—also previewed at the Auto Expo—features a triple-screen dashboard, the EV version takes a different approach with a single integrated digital display. This differentiation is a departure from Tata’s usual practice of keeping ICE and EV interiors nearly identical but will help establish unique identities for both models.
Expected Performance, Pricing, and Launch Timeline
Technical specifications remain under wraps, but the Sierra EV is expected to be based on Tata’s Acti.EV platform, which also underpins the Curvv EV. Positioned slightly above the Curvv EV and below the upcoming Harrier EV, the Sierra EV will likely be a front-wheel-drive model, unlike the AWD-equipped Harrier EV.
Pricing is expected to range between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sierra EV is set to launch by the end of 2025, following the ICE variant’s debut. It will enter the competitive midsize electric SUV segment, taking on rivals like the Mahindra BE.6, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Maruti e-Vitara.
With a blend of modern design, premium features, and an iconic nameplate, the Tata Sierra EV is shaping up to be one of the most exciting electric SUVs in India’s growing EV market.
