New Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs. Old: Price, Engine, and Features Compared

With Maruti Suzuki’s latest generation of the Dzire now on sale starting at Rs 6.79 lakh and going up to Rs 10.14 lakh, let’s explore how the updated model stacks up against its predecessor. This new version not only brings a fresh look but also boasts additional features and a more efficient engine. Here’s a detailed comparison.

Design Evolution: New Dzire vs. Old Dzire

While the new Dzire retains the classic compact sedan profile with a sloping roofline, its styling is more refined, showcasing a sophisticated, stand-alone design rather than being an extension of Maruti’s hatchbacks. The updated Dzire sports sleek, angular LED headlamps in place of the old projector units with LED DRLs. A new, larger hexagonal grille with a chrome-and-piano-black finish adds elegance to the front. On premium trims, LED fog lamps and a sculpted front bumper complete the look. At the rear, the Dzire now features square-shaped taillights with LED accents and a discreet spoiler. There’s also a diffuser-inspired element on the rear bumper.

Dimensions: Though the length, width, and wheelbase remain the same, the 2024 Dzire is slightly taller at 1,525 mm and has a slightly larger boot space of 382 liters. The updated model also gains around 30–40 kg, depending on the variant. Notably, new colors, including Alluring Blue, Gallant Red, and Nutmeg Brown, have been introduced.

Interior and Features: Enhanced Comfort and Technology

The Dzire’s interior has undergone a notable transformation, moving closer to premium territory. The dashboard layout is modernized with layered textures and a “floating” 9-inch touchscreen. Maruti has also revamped the controls for automatic climate control and reshaped the air vents, creating a more streamlined look. New technology additions include a powered sunroof, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, a wireless charger, and Maruti’s Suzuki Connect suite, enhancing convenience and connectivity.

Safety: The new Dzire sets a safety benchmark as the first Maruti vehicle to secure a 5-star Global NCAP rating, significantly improving upon the previous model’s 2-star rating. All variants now come equipped with six airbags, as well as ABS, ESP, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, and hill-hold assist.

Powertrain: New Dzire vs. Old Dzire

Under the hood, the latest Dzire introduces the new Z12E 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which debuted with the Swift. This engine produces 82 hp and 112 Nm of torque, slightly less powerful than the previous generation’s four-cylinder K-Series engine with 90 hp and 113 Nm. The trade-off for the reduced horsepower is a noticeable improvement in fuel efficiency. The new engine delivers 24.79 km/l for manual and 25.71 km/l for AMT models – an increase of 2.38 km/l and 3.1 km/l, respectively. The new CNG variant with the same engine delivers 33.73 km/kg, up by 2.61 km/kg from the previous version.

The starting price for the new Dzire is Rs 6.79 lakh, which is Rs 22,000 higher than the base model of the previous generation. For the top variant, the difference is Rs 75,000.
