Effective August 1, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new regulations for the FASTag electronic tolling system. These changes primarily affect vehicle owners with FASTags issued over three years ago, requiring updates and replacements to ensure accurate and comprehensive data.
Key Changes:
- Replacement of FASTags Older Than Five Years:
- FASTags issued five or more years ago must be replaced following the new procedures set by the providers.
- KYC Updates for FASTags Issued Three Years Ago:
- Owners of FASTags issued between three and five years ago must update their Know Your Customer (KYC) information by the October 31 deadline to ensure accuracy.
- Linking FASTags to Vehicle Details:
- All FASTags must be linked to the vehicle’s registration and chassis (VIN) number.
- New vehicle owners have 90 days from the date of purchase to complete this linking process.
- Enhanced Data Collection by Providers:
- FASTag providers are now required to verify and update their vehicle databases with accurate information, including clear photographs of the vehicle’s front and side profiles.
- Each FASTag must be linked to a mobile number for better communication.
Failure to comply with these new norms may result in difficulties and delays at toll plazas due to potential tag suspension. The NPCI advises vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid such issues and ensure smooth toll transactions.
