MG Motor is gearing up to introduce a significant update to the Windsor EV in India. According to sources, the electric hatchback will soon be offered with a larger battery pack, along with a host of new features. The launch is expected as early as next month.
What’s New in the Updated MG Windsor?
Currently, the Windsor comes with a 38kWh battery, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 332km. The upcoming version will borrow the larger 50.6kWh battery pack from its Indonesian counterpart—the Wuling Cloud EV. This upgraded battery is expected to offer a much-improved range of up to 460km (CLTC claimed).
Despite the larger battery, the electric motor setup is likely to remain unchanged. The Windsor will continue with its 136hp and 200Nm front-wheel-drive configuration. However, MG is set to enrich the feature list, with the biggest highlight being the inclusion of an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite.
Real-World Range Set to Improve
The Windsor has already proven itself efficient in real-world conditions, managing 8.1km per kWh and achieving 308km on a full charge—just slightly below its claimed range. With the new 50.6kWh battery, the real-world range could edge closer to the 400km mark, making it more suitable for long-distance and intercity travel. For comparison, the Nexon EV with a 45kWh battery offers about 350km in similar testing.
Windsor Sales Riding High
The Windsor has made a strong impact on MG’s India portfolio. Since its debut in September 2024, it has consistently outperformed the Tata Nexon EV—long considered the benchmark in the segment. Over seven months of FY2025, MG has sold 19,394 units of the Windsor, averaging over 2,700 units per month.
Currently priced between ₹14 lakh and ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated Windsor with the larger battery will likely carry a slight price premium. Still, with added range and features, it’s poised to offer even better value.
