Maruti Dzire Scores 5-Star Safety Rating in Bharat NCAP Crash Tests

The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire has set a benchmark in safety by earning a 5-star rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). It becomes the first sedan in India to be tested under BNCAP, and it has delivered an outstanding performance, making it one of the safest choices in its segment.

Top Scores in Adult and Child Occupant Safety

The Dzire scored 29.46 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 41.57 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). These figures showcase Maruti’s major leap in prioritizing safety across its models.

Notably, the Dzire had also secured a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests last year, further reinforcing its credentials.

5-Star Rating for All Variants

Bharat NCAP tested the base LXI variant of the Dzire, and despite being an entry-level trim, it comes equipped with a strong suite of standard safety features. As this safety equipment is consistent across all variants, the 5-star safety rating extends across the entire Dzire lineup.

Maruti Dzire Safety Features (Standard Across Trims)

  • 6 Airbags

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

  • Hill Hold Assist

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with EBD

  • Rear Parking Sensors

  • ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts

  • Three-point Seatbelts with Reminders for All Passengers

  • Overspeed Warning System

  • Rear Defogger

Adult Occupant Protection Breakdown

Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test: 14.17/16

The crash tests showed excellent protection for the head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet of the driver. The chest received a ‘marginal’ rating, while the tibias were rated ‘adequate.’ The front passenger was well-protected, with only the chest and one tibia rated ‘adequate’—the rest were marked ‘good’.

Side Impact Test: 15.29/16

During the side deformable barrier and side pole tests, the driver received top scores in most areas. Only the chest scored ‘adequate’, with all other regions marked as ‘good’.

Child Occupant Safety Details

  • Dynamic Safety Score: 23.57/24

  • Child Seat Installation: 12/12

  • Vehicle Safety Features Assessment: 6/13

The Dzire performed exceptionally well in dynamic tests for child protection. It offered full marks for side impact safety for both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. In frontal protection, the younger dummy scored a perfect 8/8, while the older child dummy got 7.57/8.

How the Dzire Stacks Up Against Rivals

With this achievement, the Dzire has gained a segment-first advantage over competitors such as the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Honda Amaze.

  • The Tata Tigor previously earned a 4-star Global NCAP rating back in 2021.

  • The Hyundai Aura and the latest Honda Amaze have not yet been tested under either BNCAP or Global NCAP.

This makes the Dzire India’s safest compact sedan on record under Bharat NCAP.

Final Thoughts

Maruti Suzuki’s decision to prioritize safety in the latest Dzire is a major step forward, especially in the compact sedan segment where safety hasn’t always been a top focus. With comprehensive safety features offered as standard across all variants and a solid 5-star rating to back it up, the Dzire now appeals not just to those looking for comfort and fuel efficiency, but also to families and safety-conscious buyers.
