Kawasaki Z900 Old vs New: More Tech, Sharper Looks for 2025

The Kawasaki Z900 has long been a favorite in the middleweight naked bike segment, but for 2025, it gets a far more comprehensive upgrade than just a new paint job. From updated electronics to better hardware and styling tweaks, the new Z900 brings more to the table than ever before. Here’s how the 2025 model stacks up against the outgoing version.

Engine & Performance: Cleaner, Slightly Tamer

While the 948cc inline-four engine remains fundamentally the same, it’s now compliant with the stricter Euro 5+ emission standards. This cleaner engine comes with a minor dip in output—producing 124hp and 97.4Nm, slightly down from the 2024 model’s 125hp and 98.6Nm. However, it delivers power at the same rev range and retains the Z900’s hallmark smoothness.

The big mechanical change is the addition of ride-by-wire technology, a first for the Z900. This upgrade paves the way for more sophisticated electronic rider aids.

Features & Technology: Major Upgrades

The 2025 Z900 gets a significant tech boost. New standard features include:

  • Cruise control

  • Bidirectional quickshifter

These were absent on the previous model and bring the Z900 closer to modern-day expectations. Existing features like power modes, riding modes, traction control, and dual-channel ABS now work with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) for more precise intervention.

All functions are now managed through a brand-new 5-inch full-colour TFT display, replacing the older semi-digital unit. The switchgear is also updated, sharing components with Kawasaki’s higher-end models like the Ninja 1000SX.

Cycle Parts: Better Stopping Power and Grip

In terms of hardware, the 2025 Z900 sees meaningful improvements:

  • Brakes: The older axially-mounted calipers have been replaced by radially-mounted Nissin four-piston units for better braking performance and feel.

  • Tyres: Out go the average Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres; in come the Dunlop Sportmax Q5A for improved grip and sportier handling.

These changes should translate to a more confident ride, both on the street and spirited weekend runs.

Price & Colours: Small Premium, Sharper Palette

The 2025 Kawasaki Z900 is priced at ₹9.52 lakh (ex-showroom), which is a modest increase of ₹14,000 over the previous model. It’s now offered in two fresh dual-tone colour options:

  • Black with Red accents

  • Black with Green accents

This replaces the older lineup, which leaned heavily on similar-looking black/green shades.

Verdict: A Sharper, Smarter Z900

Kawasaki has done more than just a cosmetic refresh for 2025. The Z900 now feels more premium, tech-savvy, and performance-oriented. While the core engine remains the same, the added electronics, improved brakes, and enhanced tyres make it a more compelling package—justifying the slight price bump.
