Following the recent unveiling of the Basalt Dark Edition, Citroën India has teased new Dark Edition variants for the Aircross SUV and C3 hatchback. These special editions, like the Basalt, are expected to feature cosmetic enhancements inside and out, without any mechanical changes.
Sleek and Stealthy: What to Expect
The teaser video showcases an all-black exterior theme with dark chrome accents on the grille, badges, and alloy wheels. The silver trim on the bumpers of standard models may receive a darker finish, while the headlamps could feature a smoked-out effect, enhancing the car’s stealthy appeal.
Premium Interior Upgrades
A key highlight of the teaser is the introduction of a black leatherette dashboard with contrast red stitching, a notable step up from the plastic dashboards seen in standard models. The seats also feature black leatherette upholstery with similar contrast stitching, lending a more premium feel. However, the overall equipment and features are expected to remain unchanged, with the Dark Editions likely based on the top-spec trims.
Powertrain Options
Under the hood, the Dark Editions of the Aircross, Basalt, and C3 will retain their existing powertrains. Customers can choose between an 82hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, with the latter offering an automatic transmission option. These special editions will likely be available only with the more powerful turbocharged engine.
The Rising Trend of Dark Edition Models
Dark-themed editions have been gaining popularity, with several manufacturers rolling out similar versions of their SUVs. The Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Tata Harrier and Safari, Jeep Compass, and Mahindra Scorpio N all offer Dark Edition variants, while the Mahindra XUV700 recently introduced its Ebony Edition. Even non-SUV models like the Toyota Hilux and MG Comet have joined the trend. In addition to Citroën’s upcoming Dark Editions, the Tata Curvv is also expected to receive a similar treatment soon.
With its upcoming Dark Editions, Citroën aims to add a bold and stylish alternative for buyers looking for a sportier, more aggressive aesthetic.
