The Hyundai Ioniq 5 clinched the prestigious Car of the Year title, while the Royal Enfield Himalayan was heralded as the Bike of the Year at the glamorous 2024 Autocar Awards in Mumbai.
Facing stiff competition from vehicles like the Exter, Maruti Fronx, Hyundai Verna, and others, the electric Ioniq 5 emerged victorious. The Royal Enfield Himalayan also stood out in a diverse motorcycle category, outperforming rivals such as the Triumph Speed 400 and Harley Davidson X440.
2024 Autocar Awards Winners: Cars
In addition to Car of the Year, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also secured the EV of the Year award. The BMW i7 outshone its competitors, including the Lotus Eletre, to win Luxury EV of the Year.
The hatchback category, now dominated by electric models, saw the Citroen eC3 triumph over the MG Comet for Hatchback of the Year.
The Hyundai Exter grabbed the Compact SUV of the Year award, while the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, based on the Innova Hycross, was named the MPV of the Year, beating the Toyota Rumion.
The Midsize SUV of the Year went to the Honda Elevate, in a category that included the Citroen C3 Aircross and the Mahindra XUV400. The Mercedes-Benz GLC was crowned the Luxury SUV of the Year, surpassing the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
The PHEV Lamborghini Revuelto claimed the Performance Car of the Year, showcasing exceptional engineering and design. The Maruti Fronx, with its eye-catching design, won Best Design and Styling, and the Tata Nexon EV facelift was recognized as the Variant/Update of the Year.
2024 Autocar Awards Winners: Bikes
The Royal Enfield Himalayan, a groundbreaking model for the brand, was named Bike of the Year. The Hero Xoom, with its stylish aesthetics, won Scooter of the Year, beating the Ola S1 Air and Ather 450S. The Ultraviolette F77 was lauded as the Electric Two-wheeler of the Year for its impressive performance.
The Ducati Diavel, with its transition to V4 power, was named Import Bike of the Year. BMW’s S1000 RR, known for its exceptional handling and powerful engine, was awarded the Performance Bike of the Year. The KTM Duke 390, receiving its most significant update, was recognized as the Indian Performance Bike of the Year.
Viewers’ Choice and Industry Awards
The Honda Elevate and Royal Enfield Himalayan were the people’s favorites, winning the Viewer’s Choice awards for Car and Bike of 2023, respectively. Mahindra Automotive was celebrated as the Manufacturer of the Year. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD of Maruti Suzuki India, was honored as the Person of the Year for his influential role in driving the company’s success in the SUV market.
