Audi, in partnership with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), has launched a new EV-focused sub-brand in China. Named simply “AUDI,” this brand marks an extension of Audi’s joint venture with SAIC, which also owns the iconic MG Motor. As part of this unveiling, the companies introduced the AUDI E concept, offering a preview of three electric models slated for release starting in mid-2025.
Introducing the AUDI E Concept
The AUDI E concept signals a bold new chapter in design, opting for a distinct look that forgoes Audi’s signature four-ring emblem. Larger than the new Audi A5 Avant, the concept measures 4,870mm in length, 1,990mm in width, and 1,460mm in height, with a 2,950mm wheelbase that promises enhanced interior space.
The AUDI E concept stands out with its sleek LED lighting and streamlined body, presenting a more cohesive and futuristic appearance than Audi’s latest models. It’s built on the Advanced Digitized Platform, jointly developed by Audi and SAIC, featuring an 800-volt electric system and a dual-motor setup producing 754 horsepower. Equipped with Quattro all-wheel drive and torque vectoring, the model boasts an impressive 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.6 seconds.
Performance and Range
With a 100 kWh battery, the AUDI E concept achieves a range exceeding 700 kilometers under China’s CLTC testing standards. Though specifics about charging rates are yet to be disclosed, Audi claims the model can replenish 300 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes with a high-power DC charger. The production model will also feature advanced technologies like four-wheel steering and air suspension.
Inside the AUDI E: Luxury Meets Innovation
The AUDI E concept’s interior is tailored for luxury, equipped with a curved, freestanding touchscreen display and four individual seats for a premium cabin experience. Emphasizing natural materials, the interior combines fibers and wood trims to underscore the model’s eco-friendly positioning.
Future Plans for the AUDI EV Brand
Targeting younger, tech-savvy buyers in China, AUDI plans to follow up the E concept with two additional models: a sedan in 2026 and an SUV in 2027. Remarkably, the development of this first model took only 18 months, showcasing the efficiency of Audi and SAIC’s collaborative efforts. The expanded partnership leverages Audi’s expertise in design and engineering with SAIC’s speed-to-market capabilities and local insights, positioning AUDI to cater to the evolving tastes of China’s electric vehicle market.
