VinFast VF5 to Lead Brand’s Entry Into India’s Electric Ride-Hailing Market

Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast is preparing to enter India’s competitive ride-hailing space through its mobility arm, Green and Smart Mobility (GSM). The service will exclusively deploy VinFast electric vehicles, underlining the brand’s all-EV strategy for the Indian market.

The announcement was recently confirmed by VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau, who stated that the company intends to operate the ride-hailing platform using only VinFast products.

VF5 and Limo Green MPV to Form Core GSM Fleet

At the heart of GSM’s India rollout will be the upcoming VinFast VF5, which is expected to make its Indian debut soon. The compact electric SUV will form the backbone of the taxi fleet, catering to high-volume urban mobility needs.

Joining the VF5 will be the VinFast Limo Green MPV, a people-mover specifically developed with fleet operations in mind. VinFast has confirmed that the Limo Green will come factory-equipped with fleet-focused features such as speed limiters and in-cabin passenger safety systems, including panic and assistance buttons.

Interestingly, the MPV will also be sold to private buyers in a separate configuration, which is expected to drop the ‘Green’ branding and feature a more consumer-oriented setup.

Limited Models for GSM, Broader EV Lineup for Private Buyers

While VinFast already retails the VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs in India, the company has clarified that GSM operations will initially rely only on the VF5 and Limo Green MPV. This focused approach is aimed at simplifying fleet management and optimising operating costs during the early phase of the service.

Globally, GSM already operates across markets such as Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines, running a diverse range of VinFast vehicles tailored to local mobility demands.

Two-Wheeler Ride-Hailing Could Be Next

For now, VinFast’s ride-hailing ambitions in India are limited to four-wheelers, spanning both passenger and fleet segments. However, the company is actively evaluating entry into India’s electric two-wheeler market, where it already has products on sale internationally.

With electric scooters and motorcycles in its global portfolio, VinFast could eventually expand GSM to include two-wheeler ride-hailing—subject to regulatory clearances. This is a segment that has proven challenging for existing players, but VinFast believes its integrated ecosystem could offer an advantage.

Fast Execution, Bigger Ambitions

VinFast’s aggressive timeline in India has already turned heads. The brand established a greenfield manufacturing facility in just 17 months, launched multiple EVs in quick succession, and has emerged as one of the top four electric vehicle manufacturers in the country—surpassing established players like Hyundai and Kia in the EV space.

While current volumes remain modest, VinFast’s pace of execution suggests that its ride-hailing foray with GSM could quickly become a significant force in India’s rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape.
