Velocifero (VLF), an Italian-origin brand that manufactures its models in China and retails in India through Kolhapur-based Motohaus, has expanded its portfolio with the launch of the new Mobster scooter. Priced at an introductory ₹1.30 lakh (ex-showroom), the offer is limited to the first 2,500 customers.
Engine and Performance
At the heart of the Mobster is a 125cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 12.1hp at 8,250rpm and 11.7Nm at 6,500rpm. With a claimed top speed of 100kph, the Mobster becomes the smallest-capacity scooter in India to feature liquid cooling, a technology usually seen on larger models like the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160.
Design and Hardware
The Mobster takes clear inspiration from Italjet’s bold styling, highlighted by its low-slung headlamp cluster and sporty proportions. It rolls on 12-inch wheels with 120/70 front and 130/70 rear tyres. Suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork up front and dual gas-charged shocks at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 230mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc.
Weighing in at 122kg, the scooter offers a seat height of 797mm and 155mm of ground clearance, making it taller than most rivals in the segment.
Features and Equipment
Where the Mobster really sets itself apart is in its features list. It comes with dual-channel ABS and traction control, both of which can be switched off — a rarity in the Indian scooter space. A 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, keyless ignition, and even a dashcam (optional) add to its premium positioning.
Pricing and Positioning
At ₹1.30 lakh, the Mobster sits in the same price band as bigger-capacity sporty scooters such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 (₹1.38 lakh) and Hero Xoom 160 (₹1.37 lakh), while being positioned above the TVS Ntorq 150 (from ₹1.09 lakh). Though its pricing may seem ambitious for a 125cc scooter, the unique hardware and features give it a distinct edge.
Market Presence
Motohaus currently operates 12 dealerships across India, with plans to expand by 10 more outlets soon. However, given that VLF is still a relatively new and untested brand in the Indian market, prospective buyers should consider the brand’s limited after-sales support before making a decision.
