December 2024 Two-Wheeler Sales: Hero vs. Honda Continues, Suzuki Stands Out

December typically sees subdued sales in the two-wheeler market, as many buyers delay purchases until the new year. Despite this trend, the competition among major manufacturers remained intense. Here’s a closer look at how the key players fared in the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) segment during the last month of 2024.

Hero MotoCorp: 2,94,152 Units

Hero retained its position as the market leader, but sales dropped significantly. Compared to November 2024’s figures of 4,39,777 units, Hero saw a steep 33.11% decline. Year-on-year, the company also posted a 22.15% drop from 3,77,842 units in December 2023. Hero aims to bounce back with upcoming launches, including two 250cc motorcycles, the Xpulse 210, and two new Xoom scooter models.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India: 2,70,919 Units

Trailing Hero by fewer than 23,000 units, Honda reported a sharp 37.42% drop compared to November 2024 sales of 4,32,888 units. The year-on-year decline was less pronounced, at 5.31%, from December 2023’s 2,86,101 units. Honda plans to venture into the EV segment with two electric scooters and is gearing up to introduce premium motorcycles in India in 2025.

Bajaj’s plans for 2025 include launching the KTM 390 Adventure, Enduro, and SMC R models. The sales figures for Bajaj include the Chetak electric scooter, which now leads India’s EV market, overtaking Ola Electric.

Suzuki Motorcycle India: 78,834 Units

Suzuki was the only manufacturer to achieve growth in both month-on-month and year-on-year comparisons.
