The Mahindra Thar Roxx has earned a stellar 5-star rating for adult and child occupant safety from Bharat NCAP, following recent crash tests. Among all internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles tested by Bharat NCAP to date, the Thar Roxx stands out with the highest scores. Tested alongside the Mahindra XUV3XO and XUV400 EV, the Thar Roxx highlights Mahindra’s strong focus on vehicle safety.
Outstanding Scores in Occupant Protection
The Thar Roxx achieved near-perfect scores in both adult and child occupant protection:
- Adult occupant protection: 31.09 out of 32 points.
- Child occupant protection: 45 out of 49 points.
Equipped with standard safety features like six airbags, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and ISOFIX child seat anchors, the Thar Roxx emphasizes robust passenger safety. Both the MX3 base variant and the mid-spec AX5 L variant were tested, but the 5-star rating applies across all Thar Roxx variants. Additionally, higher trims include an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, and all variants comply with AIS-100 pedestrian protection regulations.
High Marks in Adult Occupant Protection
The Thar Roxx secured 31.09 points out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, the second-highest AOP score on Bharat NCAP’s record, following closely behind the Tata Punch EV’s 31.46/32. It scored 15.09 out of 16 in the frontal offset test and a full 16 out of 16 in the side impact test, demonstrating exceptional protection. Although the Bharat NCAP report did not address body shell stability, the Thar Roxx was rated highly in key areas, providing solid protection for the head, neck, and overall side impact safety.
Exceptional Child Occupant Protection
In Child Occupant Protection, the Thar Roxx achieved 45 out of 49 points, equaling the Tata Punch EV’s record and marking the highest child protection score to date. The Thar Roxx performed flawlessly in the dynamic (24/24) and CRS installation (12/12) tests, and it scored 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. Both 18-month and 3-year-old dummies were securely placed in rear-facing seats with ISOFIX anchors, ensuring high safety standards for young passengers.
Bharat NCAP’s comprehensive testing of the Thar Roxx confirms its role as a leader in safety within the Indian automotive market, particularly among body-on-frame SUVs.
