Renault is gearing up for a major comeback in the Indian SUV space in 2026. After refreshing the Kiger and Triber for the 2025 model year, the French carmaker is now preparing to introduce two all-new SUVs that will significantly expand its presence in the midsize and family SUV segments. The highlight of this product push is the long-awaited return of the Renault Duster, followed by a larger three-row SUV based on the same platform.
Here’s a closer look at Renault’s upcoming launches in India in 2026, including expected launch timelines, prices and powertrain details.
New-Generation Renault Duster (Expected Launch: Q1 2026)
Expected price: ₹11 lakh – ₹19 lakh (ex-showroom)
Likely engines: 1.3L turbo-petrol, 1.0L turbo-petrol, hybrid later
Renault will bring back the Duster nameplate in early 2026, marking the return of one of India’s most iconic compact SUVs. Unlike the rugged, no-nonsense Duster of the past, the new-generation model is expected to be positioned as a more premium and feature-rich offering, aimed squarely at rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara.
The India-spec Duster is likely to receive upmarket interior materials, enhanced features and improved cabin insulation, setting it apart from the global versions sold overseas.
Engine and gearbox options
-
The SUV is expected to be powered by Renault’s 1.3-litre HR13 turbo-petrol engine, producing up to 156hp, paired with manual and CVT automatic transmissions.
-
Entry-level variants could use the familiar 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol seen on the Kiger, possibly with minor performance upgrades.
-
Renault is also developing a locally manufactured hybrid powertrain, which could be introduced later in 2026 to improve fuel efficiency and emissions compliance.
Renault 7-Seater SUV (Expected Launch: Q4 2026)
Expected price: ₹15 lakh – ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom)
Likely engines: Same petrol and hybrid options as Duster
Following the Duster’s launch, Renault will introduce a larger, three-row SUV towards the end of 2026. This model will sit above the Duster and target buyers looking for a practical family SUV with seven seats.
Based on the same platform as the new Duster, this SUV will feature a longer wheelbase, increased rear overhang and a more spacious cabin. Internationally, Renault sells similar models inspired by concepts like the Bigster and Boreal, and the India-bound version is expected to draw design influence from these.
What to expect
-
Three-row seating layout with improved second- and third-row space
-
Distinct exterior styling to differentiate it from the standard Duster
-
Shared powertrain options, including the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and the smaller 1.0-litre turbo, with a hybrid variant planned for the future
While the final name is yet to be confirmed, Renault may retain the strong brand recall of the Duster by using it as part of the new SUV’s badge.
Renault’s India Strategy for 2026
With these two launches, Renault aims to re-enter the high-volume midsize SUV segment and establish a stronger foothold in the competitive ₹10–25 lakh price bracket. The return of the Duster brand, combined with a new 7-seat SUV and upcoming hybrid technology, could play a crucial role in reviving Renault’s fortunes in India.
