BMW India had a busy 2025 with the launch of models like the iX1 Long Wheelbase, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe and the third-generation X3. The German luxury carmaker is now gearing up to carry this momentum into 2026, with two major electric vehicle updates lined up for the Indian market: the BMW iX facelift and the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB).
Both models are expected to arrive in the first half of 2026 and will further strengthen BMW’s growing EV portfolio in India.
BMW iX Facelift
Expected launch: Q2 2026
Estimated price: Around Rs 1.5 crore
Battery options: 94.8kWh – 109.1kWh
The updated BMW iX will receive its first major refresh since launch, bringing cosmetic changes alongside significant upgrades to its electric powertrain. Internationally, the facelifted iX is offered in three variants – iX 45, iX 60 and iX M70 – all featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive setups and larger battery packs than before.
-
iX 45: 402hp and 700Nm with a 94.8kWh battery
-
iX 60: 536hp and 765Nm paired with a 109.1kWh battery
-
iX M70: 659hp and up to 1,100Nm from a 108.9kWh battery
Claimed WLTP driving ranges are up to 602km for the iX 45, 701km for the iX 60, and 600km for the high-performance M70.
Visually, the facelift brings updated LED headlamps, a reworked kidney grille, revised front and rear bumpers, and new alloy wheel designs. Inside, BMW has introduced a new three-spoke steering wheel and upgraded M multifunction seats that offer improved comfort and lateral support.
BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB)
Expected launch: Q2 2026
Estimated price: Around Rs 1 crore
Battery: 97kWh
BMW will also introduce a long-wheelbase version of the i5 electric sedan in India, marking an important milestone for the brand. The i5 LWB will be assembled locally at BMW’s Chennai plant, making it the company’s first electric sedan to be manufactured in India.
Based on the China-spec i5 LWB, the India-bound version is expected to sit above the petrol-powered 530Li and below the performance-focused i5 M60. BMW is likely to offer the i5 eDrive40L, which features:
-
A rear-mounted electric motor producing 340hp and 430Nm
-
A 97kWh battery pack
-
Claimed range of up to 713km (CLTC cycle) in China
Real-world range figures in Indian conditions will be lower, and BMW is reportedly making market-specific changes, including improved ground clearance, to better suit local roads.
BMW is optimistic that the i5 LWB can replicate the success of the i7 in India, where the electric flagship already accounts for nearly 50 percent of total 7 Series sales.
What This Means for BMW India
With the iX facelift and the locally assembled i5 LWB, BMW is doubling down on premium electric vehicles in India. The strategy combines cutting-edge technology, long-range capability and a strong focus on rear-seat comfort – key factors for luxury EV buyers in the country.
As India’s luxury EV segment continues to expand, BMW’s 2026 lineup positions it strongly against rivals like Mercedes-Benz EQE, EQS and Audi’s upcoming electric offerings.
