TVS Motor Company has officially launched a refreshed version of its popular Apache RTR 160, just days after teasing the update. The latest iteration now features dual-channel ABS, red-painted alloy wheels, and compliance with the new OBD2B emission norms, all while retaining its core mechanicals. With this launch, TVS continues to keep the Apache brand relevant and competitive in the 160cc segment.
What’s New?
The standout update is the dual-channel ABS—a significant safety upgrade over the single-channel unit offered on lower variants. This addition makes the RTR 160 one of the few bikes in its segment to offer such a feature at this price point. Alongside the improved braking, new red alloy wheels give the bike a sportier visual edge, distinguishing it from the rest of the lineup.
TVS has also updated the motorcycle to meet OBD2B (On-Board Diagnostics, Stage 2B) emission regulations, which became mandatory for two-wheelers in India this year. This ensures that the Apache stays road-legal and environmentally compliant.
Engine and Performance
Despite the regulatory update, the Apache RTR 160 retains its trusted 159.7cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which continues to produce 16hp at 8,750rpm and 13.85Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox, offering a balance of city-friendly torque and decent highway cruising capability.
Variants and Pricing
This new dual-channel ABS variant is priced at ₹1.34 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the top-spec version in the RTR 160 lineup. It costs approximately ₹4,000 more than the Racing Edition, which comes with single-channel ABS and is offered in matte black and gloss white colour options. The base variant of the Apache RTR 160 starts at ₹1.21 lakh (ex-showroom).
Position in the Segment
With this update, TVS has sharpened the value proposition of the Apache RTR 160 against rivals like the Bajaj Pulsar N160, Hero Xtreme 160R, and Honda Unicorn. While the Pulsar N160 also offers dual-channel ABS, TVS’s new design elements and brand legacy could appeal to those looking for a mix of style, performance, and safety.
Verdict:
TVS continues to evolve the Apache RTR 160 with meaningful updates. The inclusion of dual-channel ABS not only enhances safety but also gives it an edge over many competitors in the same price bracket. Combined with sporty red alloys and emission compliance, the RTR 160 remains a solid contender in the 160cc space for enthusiasts and commuters alike.
