Toyota Launches Ninth-Generation Camry in India at ₹48 Lakh

Toyota has introduced the ninth-generation Camry in India, priced at ₹48 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium sedan, known for its fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain, made its international debut last year. Deliveries of the latest Camry will begin immediately, according to Toyota.

Pricing and Competitors

The new Camry is ₹1.83 lakh costlier than its predecessor, which was priced at ₹46.17 lakh. Despite the price increase, it remains more affordable than its primary competitor, the Skoda Superb, which starts at ₹54 lakh. It also provides a compelling alternative to luxury sedans such as the Audi A4 (₹46.02 lakh), Mercedes-Benz C-Class (₹54.40 lakh), and BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine (₹60.60 lakh).

Exterior Design and Platform

Built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, the new Camry features a sharp “hammerhead” design with sleek LED headlights and DRLs, a revised bumper with a Lexus-inspired aesthetic, and a streamlined front grille. A prominent character line, redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels, and C-shaped LED tail lamps enhance its modern appeal.

Color Options

The Camry is available in six exterior shades: Precious Metal, Dark Blue, Cement Grey, Emotional Red, Attitude Black, and Platinum White Pearl.

Interior and Features

The cabin boasts significant updates, including a revamped dashboard featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other tech highlights include a nine-speaker JBL sound system, a 10-inch head-up display, and digital key functionality.

Rear passengers enjoy reclining seats with integrated controls in the center console, while the front seats offer 10-way powered adjustments with ventilation. Comfort is further elevated with three-zone automatic climate control and a sunroof with a retractable sunshade.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite comes standard, offering features such as pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, road sign recognition, and automatic high beams. The Camry also includes nine airbags, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Engine and Performance

The Camry is equipped with a 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with Toyota’s fifth-generation Hybrid System (THS 5), delivering a combined output of 230hp—12hp more than the outgoing model. The hybrid setup, paired with an eCVT gearbox, offers an impressive fuel efficiency of 25.49 km/l (ARAI-rated).

Warranty and Local Assembly

The Camry’s hybrid battery comes with an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty. Like its predecessor, the new model will be locally assembled at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka, continuing the CKD import strategy adopted since 2013.

With its refined design, advanced features, and efficient hybrid system, the new Toyota Camry is set to strengthen its position in India’s premium sedan segment.
