At the Auto Expo 2025, Tata Motors unveiled an impressive lineup, with the Sierra grabbing significant attention. While earlier glimpses of the Sierra EV showcased its development journey, this event marked the debut of the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version of the Sierra. Much like Tata’s other ICE/EV pairings (e.g., Nexon and Nexon EV), the Sierra and Sierra EV share a lot in common but are differentiated by several subtle yet significant details. Let’s explore the distinctions between these two models.
Exterior Design: ICE Sierra vs. Sierra EV
The most apparent differences between the Sierra and Sierra EV lie in their front-end designs and color themes. The ICE-powered Sierra features a gloss-black panel on the upper nose section and a body-colored bumper. In contrast, the Sierra EV flips this scheme, with a body-colored upper section and a gloss-black bumper.
The Sierra EV has a sleeker bumper design optimized for aerodynamics, while the ICE Sierra incorporates functional air vents to cool the engine. Both models, however, boast modern design elements like a full-width LED light bar, a faux silver skid plate, and a strikingly similar silhouette.
From the side, the two SUVs maintain a similar aesthetic, including flush door handles, thick black cladding, a kinked B-pillar, and a sharply raked windscreen. The iconic wraparound rear window, designed with a blacked-out roof section for a floating spoiler effect, is a standout feature on both models. The only noticeable difference in profile is the alloy wheel design.
At the rear, the Sierra and Sierra EV are nearly identical, with a slab-sided tailgate, a full-width LED light bar, and a dual-tone bumper with a silver faux skid plate.
Interior Features and Layout
Tata Motors has not fully revealed the production-ready interiors of the Sierra or Sierra EV, but early previews hint at some key differences. The Sierra EV, shown in 2023, featured a futuristic interior design with dual screens for instrumentation and infotainment, hidden AC vents, and moss accents on the dashboard.
In contrast, the ICE Sierra showcased at Auto Expo 2025 had a triple-screen setup and functional AC vents. The four-spoke steering wheel and center console design seem more production-ready and aligned with other Tata models like the Nexon and Curvv.
Both versions are expected to share a similar cabin layout in their final production form to streamline costs, with the option of 4- and 5-seater configurations available for buyers.
Powertrain Options
While detailed specifications remain under wraps, the ICE Sierra is expected to feature Tata’s new 1.5-liter direct-injection petrol engine, with a possibility of the 2.0-liter diesel engine being added to the lineup. As for the Sierra EV, details regarding its battery capacity and motor configuration are yet to be disclosed.
Launch Timeline
Both the Sierra and Sierra EV are in the final stages of development, with a simultaneous launch planned for the second half of the year. Positioned as direct competitors to models like the Hyundai Creta/Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara/e-Vitara, these midsize SUVs are poised to make a strong impact in the segment.
Stay tuned for more updates as Tata Motors prepares to launch these exciting new additions to its lineup.
