Tata Motors has revealed the next phase of its electric vehicle (EV) strategy for India, confirming the launch of three new electric models in 2026. The upcoming EVs will include the Sierra.ev, an updated Punch.ev, and the first premium electric car under the new Avinya sub-brand. Together, these launches will strengthen Tata’s leadership in India’s rapidly growing EV market.
The automaker has also announced plans to introduce three additional electric nameplates between FY2027 and FY2030, significantly expanding its electric portfolio across mass-market and premium segments.
Tata EV Sales Milestone Strengthens Growth Momentum
Tata Motors’ aggressive EV roadmap comes on the back of a major achievement. The company has crossed 2.5 lakh electric vehicle sales in India, with the Nexon.ev becoming the country’s first EV to sell over 1 lakh units. Notably, Tata says around 26 percent of its EV buyers are first-time car owners, highlighting the brand’s growing appeal among new customers.
Tata Sierra.ev: Electric Revival of an Icon
The Sierra.ev will be Tata’s entry into the midsize electric SUV segment and is expected to launch in the first half of 2026. It will be based on Tata’s acti.ev+ platform, which also underpins the Harrier EV.
Key highlights expected from the Sierra.ev include:
-
Rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options
-
Design closely aligned with the ICE Sierra, with EV-specific elements
-
Closed-off front fascia and aerodynamic enhancements
With its lifestyle-focused positioning, the Sierra.ev will help Tata compete more strongly in the midsize electric SUV space.
Updated Tata Punch.ev Coming in 2026
The Punch.ev, currently Tata’s most affordable electric SUV, will receive a mid-life update in 2026. This refresh is expected to mirror changes planned for the ICE Punch facelift.
Likely updates include:
-
Minor exterior design revisions
-
Feature additions inside the cabin
-
No major mechanical changes
The refreshed Punch.ev will continue to play a key role in making electric mobility accessible to budget-conscious buyers.
Avinya: Tata’s New Premium EV Brand Debuts in 2026
The most significant addition to Tata’s EV line-up will be the first Avinya-branded electric vehicle, scheduled to arrive by the end of 2026. Positioned above Tata’s current electric offerings, Avinya will serve as the brand’s premium EV range.
Avinya models will debut Tata’s Gen 3 born-electric skateboard platform, designed to support:
-
Larger, more advanced EVs
-
Improved range and efficiency
-
Next-generation software and connectivity features
This platform will allow Tata to directly target higher-end electric segments in the Indian market.
More Tata EVs Planned Through 2030
Beyond 2026, Tata Motors plans to introduce three more electric nameplates between FY2027 and FY2030, taking the total number of new EV launches to five within the next five years. Some of these future models are expected to further expand the Avinya range.
These upcoming EVs will complement Tata’s existing electric line-up, which already includes the Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev, ensuring coverage across multiple price points and body styles.
Charging Infrastructure Expansion to Support EV Growth
To support its expanding EV ecosystem, Tata Motors is also investing heavily in charging infrastructure. Through the Tata.ev Open Collaboration framework, the company currently supports:
-
Over 4 lakh charging points
-
More than 30,000 fast chargers
By 2030, Tata aims to scale this network to 1 million charging points, including 1 lakh fast chargers, addressing one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption in India.
Big Push for Tata’s Electric Future
With three confirmed EV launches in 2026, a new premium electric brand, and a long-term roadmap extending to 2030, Tata Motors is clearly doubling down on electric mobility. The strategy positions the company to remain a dominant force in India’s EV market while expanding into higher-value segments.
