Skoda India is evaluating the introduction of the Elroq electric SUV to the Indian market, alongside the already confirmed Enyaq iV. The company is also considering local assembly for both models. The Elroq is set for a global unveiling later this year and is expected to go on sale in Europe in early 2025. If Skoda’s feasibility study proves positive, local assembly could commence in late 2025.
Local Assembly Plans for Skoda Enyaq and Elroq
According to Petr Janeba, Skoda India’s brand director, the Enyaq and Elroq share a similar platform, which offers efficiency in parts and components. Skoda is deliberating its involvement in the government’s EV manufacturing policy announced in March, which requires establishing manufacturing facilities in India within three years. This policy also permits limited car imports at a reduced customs duty rate for companies investing at least Rs 4,150 crore in EV manufacturing units.
Participation in this policy would help Skoda meet Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) targets and allow the import of niche EVs at a 15 percent customs duty, equivalent to Completely Knocked Down (CKD) models. If Skoda opts out of the policy, it will focus on limited EV operations centered around the Enyaq.
Specifications and Features of Skoda Enyaq and Elroq
The Enyaq iV, built on the VW Group’s MEB platform, which also supports the Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron, measures 4,648mm in length and 1,877mm in width, slightly smaller than the Skoda Kodiaq. The Enyaq is a two-row SUV, showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show. The range-topping Enyaq iV 80x, expected for the Indian market, features a 77kWh battery and dual motors providing 265hp. It supports 125kW DC fast charging and offers a range of 513km (WLTP) on a single charge.
The Elroq, though not yet revealed in its production version, is expected to be about 4.2 metres long and will debut Skoda’s new Modern Solid design language. It will be available in four variants: Elroq 50, 60, 85, and 85x, with power outputs ranging from 168hp to 295hp. Battery options include 55kWh, 63kWh, and 82kWh packs, with RWD and AWD configurations and a claimed range exceeding 560km.
