Eicher Motors Limited (EML) has announced a major leadership transition with the appointment of Siddhartha Lal as its new executive chairman, succeeding S. Sandilya, who steps down after 25 years. This move solidifies Lal’s influence over the company’s strategic direction, building on his successful transformation of Royal Enfield into a global leader in the midsize motorcycle segment.
Previously serving as the managing director and CEO of Eicher Motors, Lal played a pivotal role in reshaping the company’s brand identity and market position. In his expanded role, he will drive long-term vision, consumer insights, brand strategy, and technological advancements while mentoring emerging leadership.
Additionally, the company’s board has appointed B. Govindarajan as the new managing director. Govindarajan, a veteran at Eicher Motors, will also continue as CEO of Royal Enfield. Meanwhile, Vinod Aggarwal has been named vice chairman (non-executive) and will retain his current position as MD & CEO of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), a joint venture between Eicher and Volvo Group.
To further strengthen governance, the board has inducted two new independent directors—Ira Gupta, a seasoned HR expert with leadership experience at Microsoft India and GlaxoSmithKline, and Arun Vasu, a third-generation entrepreneur from the TTK family business. These appointments coincide with the conclusion of Manvi Sinha’s tenure as an independent director on February 12, 2025.
Eicher Motors continues to report robust financial growth, with a total income of Rs 16,536 crore (USD 2.01 billion) for FY2024, while VECV posted Rs 21,459 crore (USD 2.58 billion) in revenue for the same period.
