Renault Kiger vs Nissan Magnite: Which Top Variant Offers Better Value?

The Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite have carved out strong positions in the sub-4 metre SUV segment. Built on the same platform and powered by similar engines, these sibling SUVs share plenty in common. But when it comes to their fully loaded trims – the Renault Kiger Emotion and Nissan Magnite Tekna+ – which one gives you more for your money? Let’s break it down.

Exterior Highlights

Both SUVs tick the essentials for a modern compact SUV: LED DRLs, fog lamps, 16-inch alloys, roof rails capable of carrying up to 50kg, a shark-fin antenna, rear wiper with washer and defogger, plus a tailgate spoiler.

Where they differ is in the finer details. The Magnite edges ahead with projector LED headlamps and a wider choice of seven monotone colours, while the Kiger adds sportier touches such as red brake callipers (turbo models) and rain-sensing wipers. Neither SUV offers a sunroof at the top end.

Cabin & Features

Step inside, and the similarities continue – a 7-inch digital driver’s display, 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, rear AC vents and leatherette seats are all part of the package.

But there are subtle differences:

  • The Kiger gains an edge with front ventilated seats, a wireless charger, and a class-leading 405-litre boot.

  • The Magnite strikes back with rear USB charging ports (including Type-C), which the Kiger misses.

Safety Equipment

On the safety front, both SUVs stand neck-and-neck. Six airbags, a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, ABS, traction control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts and TPMS are standard on both. Neither SUV gets ADAS yet, and both continue with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

Engine & Gearbox Options

The Kiger and Magnite share the same set of engines:

  • 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol (72hp, 96Nm)

  • 1.0L turbo-petrol (100hp, 152Nm/160Nm depending on gearbox)

  • 1.0L CNG (dealer-level fitment)

Gearbox choices also mirror each other – 5-speed manual, AMT (for the NA petrol), and CVT (for the turbo-petrol).

Fuel efficiency figures are nearly identical, though the Kiger has a slight edge in turbo-petrol CVT efficiency, while the Magnite fares better in NA and CNG trims.

Verdict: Kiger or Magnite?

With its 2025 facelift, the Renault Kiger has gained extra features like ventilated seats and wireless charging while keeping prices lower than the Magnite across most variants. The Nissan Magnite still appeals with small conveniences like projector LED lamps and rear USB ports, but overall, the Renault Kiger Emotion emerges as the more value-packed choice – at least while its introductory pricing holds.
