Ola Electric has officially postponed the deliveries of its recently introduced S1 Z and Gig electric scooters. Initially scheduled for rollout in April and May 2025, the launch timelines have now been pushed back indefinitely. The company attributes this shift to a strategic realignment, focusing its current resources on the rollout of its new Roadster electric motorcycle platform.
Both the S1 Z and Gig were designed to be Ola’s most affordable offerings yet, aimed at budget-conscious consumers and business users. The S1 Z, priced at ₹59,999, was targeted toward urban commuters, while the Gig and Gig+ variants, priced between ₹39,999 and ₹49,999, were geared towards last-mile delivery and B2B segments.
However, Ola Electric Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal explained that the company is adopting a staggered launch approach to ensure each product gets adequate attention from potential buyers. “We are delaying the S1 Z, Gig/Gig+ and some other upcoming products so we can sequentially launch them and give each model its due share of focus in the market,” he told investors.
The immediate priority for Ola is the Roadster lineup, which includes models like the Roadster X, X Plus, and Arrowhead. Despite being delayed itself—initially expected in March, then April—the Roadster electric motorcycle finally began deliveries on May 21.
The postponement comes amid rising competition in the EV two-wheeler market from established players like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto. Ola Electric’s market share has been under pressure, with a steady decline in sales volumes across all four quarters of FY25. The company has also lost its top spot in the EV scooter segment in recent months.
In response, Ola has accelerated its infrastructure expansion, now operating around 4,000 stores nationwide. The company claims that this network upgrade has helped reduce service turnaround times to just over a day on average. Moving forward, Ola says it is concentrating on improving operational efficiencies and boosting per-store sales performance.
“Our focus this quarter and the next is to increase productivity across our store network, especially as our electric motorcycle begins to reach customers,” Aggarwal added.
As of now, there is no confirmed timeline for when the S1 Z and Gig scooters will begin deliveries.
