After a relatively subdued 2024, Volkswagen India is gearing up for an action-packed 2025 with several new launches. The lineup includes fully imported models, locally assembled SUVs, and mid-cycle updates to core offerings, signaling a robust expansion of Volkswagen’s premium and mainstream segments in India. Here’s a detailed look at what’s in store:
Volkswagen Tiguan R
Expected Launch: Q2 2025
Volkswagen is set to introduce the high-performance Tiguan R, the most powerful version of the five-seat Tiguan. This model, yet to debut globally, is confirmed for India. Under the hood, it is likely to house a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivering over 250 horsepower. Enhanced exterior styling and sportier interiors will distinguish it from the standard Tiguan. Imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), the Tiguan R is expected to carry a premium price tag of approximately ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom).
Volkswagen Golf GTI
Expected Launch: Mid-2025
After much anticipation, the iconic Golf GTI is finally making its way to Indian shores. This hot hatch, arriving under the government’s homologation-free import route, will serve as a halo product for the brand. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine generating 245 horsepower, the Golf GTI boasts a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 6.4 seconds. Expected to be priced between ₹45 lakh and ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom), the model will feature sportier aesthetics and cutting-edge technology to appeal to driving enthusiasts.
Volkswagen Tayron
Expected Launch: Q3 2025
The Tayron, a three-row SUV, will replace the Tiguan AllSpace in Volkswagen’s lineup. Positioned against rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian, the Tayron is larger and more spacious than the current Tiguan, with a 231mm longer body to accommodate a third row of seats. A 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine will likely power the India-spec model. With premium features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, the Tayron is expected to be locally assembled and priced around ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Volkswagen ID.4 Facelift
Expected Launch: Late 2025
Volkswagen’s all-electric SUV, the ID.4, is set to debut in India in its refreshed avatar. The facelift will bring subtle styling upgrades and possibly additional features, while retaining the 77kWh battery. It remains to be seen if the India-bound version will offer the 204hp rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration or the 265hp all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. Imported as a CBU, the ID.4 facelift is expected to be priced around ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom), catering to the growing demand for premium EVs in the country.
Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Facelifts
Expected Launch: Late 2025/Early 2026
To maintain their momentum in the market, Volkswagen will update its popular Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan with mid-cycle facelifts. These models will receive styling tweaks, including redesigned front ends and alloy wheels, along with significant feature upgrades such as an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) suite. However, the powertrain lineup—featuring 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engines—will remain unchanged.
With an ambitious slate of launches, Volkswagen aims to cater to diverse customer preferences, from high-performance enthusiasts to premium EV buyers and family SUV seekers.
