Toyota is set to unveil a new all-electric coupe-SUV on March 11, widely speculated to be the production version of the bZ Compact SUV Concept from 2022. This will be Toyota’s third all-electric model globally, following the bZ4X and the recently introduced Urban Cruiser EV. The brand aims to expand its EV lineup, with six new models planned by 2026 in international markets.
Design and Styling: Retaining the Concept’s Bold Looks
A teaser image and video reveal that the upcoming electric SUV retains many styling cues from the concept, including a sleek raked roofline, an elongated bonnet, and a distinctive rear lightbar. The front fascia features Toyota’s signature “hammerhead” design, aligning with the brand’s evolving design language.
It also shares visual similarities with the bZ3C fastback, showcased at the 2023 Beijing Motor Show. However, key differences, like the rear light design, suggest it could be a separate model or a regional variant tailored for European markets.
Powertrain and Battery Options: AWD Confirmed
Toyota’s teaser hints at an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant, likely powered by dual electric motors. If it follows the Urban Cruiser EV’s setup, the AWD version could deliver 184hp and 300Nm of torque, paired with a 61kWh battery offering a range of around 400km.
An entry-level version is also expected, potentially featuring a 144hp front-mounted motor with a 49kWh battery pack. Both variants should support fast charging up to 150kW.
Interior and Features: Inspired by the Toyota C-HR
While Toyota hasn’t revealed the interior, reports suggest it will share design elements with the C-HR, rather than the Urban Cruiser. Expect a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a raised center console. Higher trims may offer premium features like a panoramic sunroof and a JBL sound system.
Potential Rivals and Market Positioning
The new EV is expected to compete with models like the Volvo C40 Recharge and Smart #1, given its similar dimensions and coupe-SUV styling.
Name and Market Availability
While the EV was initially rumored to be called bZ3X, Toyota may opt for the Urban Cruiser branding instead. As for India, there’s no confirmation yet on its launch, but the Urban Cruiser EV is set to arrive later this year, with pricing details expected soon.
Stay tuned for more updates when Toyota officially unveils this new electric coupe-SUV on March 11.
