Mini India has officially opened bookings for the new Mini Cooper Convertible, ahead of its market launch. Although the booking amount has not been disclosed, interested buyers can reserve the car through Mini’s website or any authorised dealership. The Convertible is based on the Cooper S hatchback and brings open-top motoring to the latest-generation Mini lineup.
Design and Exterior Highlights
The new Cooper Convertible stays true to Mini’s instantly recognisable retro-modern silhouette but adds the excitement of an electrically operated soft-top roof.
-
The roof can open or close in 18 seconds, even while driving at speeds up to 30kph.
-
Up front, the car sports circular LED headlamps with matching circular DRLs and an octagonal grille featuring blacked-out trim and an ‘S’ badge.
-
The side profile is accentuated by 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chunky black cladding and the soft-top roof that defines the convertible look.
-
At the rear, the Convertible gets oblong LED tail-lamps with Union Jack detailing, a dual-tone bumper and the familiar Mini and Cooper S badging.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Cooper Convertible mirrors the cabin layout of the Cooper S hardtop. The interior follows Mini’s latest circular design language and uses sustainable materials across the dashboard and trim.
Key interior highlights include:
-
9.4-inch circular OLED touchscreen, which doubles as the instrument cluster
-
Android-based infotainment system with an intuitive UI
-
Head-up display (HUD)
-
Dual-tone cabin with customisable dashboard elements
-
Pill-shaped air vents and ambient lighting
Expected comfort and convenience features:
-
Powered front seats
-
Harman Kardon premium audio system
-
Automatic climate control
-
Wireless charging
-
Rearview camera
-
Cruise control
Engine and Performance
Powering the Mini Cooper Convertible is the same engine found in the Cooper S hardtop:
-
2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol
-
204hp and 300Nm
-
Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT)
Due to additional chassis reinforcement required for the convertible body style, the 0–100kph sprint takes 6.9 seconds, marginally slower than the hardtop but still quick for a compact luxury convertible.
Expected Price and Rivals
The standard Cooper S hatch is priced from ₹43.7 lakh (ex-showroom). Given the premium engineering of a soft-top convertible, Mini is expected to price the Cooper Convertible at around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom).
At this price point, the Mini Cooper Convertible sits in a segment of its own. The only other car in India with an electric folding roof is the MG Cyberster, but at ₹75 lakh, it sits in a higher performance and pricing bracket.
