2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Launched at Rs 3.35 Crore: S 580e Brings Plug-in Hybrid Power to India

2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Launched at Rs 3.35 Crore

Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in India at an introductory price of Rs 3.35 crore, ex-showroom. Unlike the previous India-spec Maybach S-Class, the facelift arrives exclusively in the S 580e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid configuration. Only 30 units are being allocated to India in the first batch, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November 2026.

The biggest change is under the bonnet. The Maybach S 580e combines a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery, delivering a combined 585hp and 750Nm. It can travel up to 98km on electric power alone under the WLTP cycle, while retaining the long-distance flexibility of a petrol engine.

Key Highlights

2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Price and Variant

For now, Mercedes-Benz India is offering the facelifted Maybach S-Class in a single configuration.

Variant Powertrain Price, ex-showroom
Mercedes-Maybach S 580e 4MATIC 3.0-litre petrol PHEV Rs 3.35 crore

The price is significantly higher than the outgoing Maybach S-Class, but the new model brings a completely different powertrain, updated electronics and additional rear-seat equipment. The first batch is limited to just 30 cars, making availability considerably more exclusive.

On-road pricing will vary depending on the registration location, insurance, taxes and applicable charges. At this price point, optional MANUFAKTUR personalisation can also push the final bill considerably higher.

Mercedes-Maybach S 580e Powertrain and Performance

The S 580e uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The petrol engine produces 443hp and 560Nm, while the electric motor develops 160hp and 480Nm. Combined output is rated at 585hp and 750Nm.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

The plug-in hybrid system is also designed to make the Maybach quieter and smoother in urban driving. The car can operate on electric power at speeds of up to 140km/h, allowing short city journeys to be completed without starting the petrol engine.

Electric Range and Charging

The 22kWh usable battery provides a claimed WLTP electric range of up to 98km. Mercedes also quotes a weighted combined WLTP fuel-efficiency figure of 34.48kmpl, although this figure should not be compared directly with the mileage of a conventional petrol sedan because PHEV testing accounts for electric operation.

Charging support includes an 11kW AC onboard charger and up to 60kW DC fast charging. Mercedes-Benz India is also offering a complimentary home charging solution with the car.

Exterior Design Gets More Distinctive

The facelift retains the stretched proportions that define the Maybach S-Class, but adds several visual changes. The grille is around 20 percent larger and features illuminated detailing, while an illuminated Mercedes star sits on the bonnet.

The Maybach-specific grille continues with its vertical slats, while rose-gold detailing is used around the headlamps. The car also gets Digital Light technology, an illuminated Maybach logo and illuminated door sills.

The Maybach S-Class remains around 180mm longer than the standard S-Class long-wheelbase model, with the additional length primarily benefiting rear-seat occupants. India-spec cars get Maybach-specific wheels and MANUFAKTUR two-tone exterior finishes.

First-Class Rear Cabin Is the Main Attraction

The India-spec S 580e is available exclusively as a four-seater. It gets individual executive rear seats separated by a full-length business console.

The rear seats recline to as much as 43 degrees and feature heating, ventilation and massage functions. The Rear Comfort Package Plus adds fold-out tables, wireless charging and temperature-controlled cup holders. Two dedicated smartphone-style remotes allow rear passengers to control various cabin functions.

Up front, the updated dashboard features the MBUX Superscreen arrangement, including a central touchscreen and a dedicated front-passenger display. The driver gets a 3D display, while augmented-reality navigation and a head-up display further expand the technology package.

A 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround-sound system with 1,610 watts of output is also part of the luxury package.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety equipment includes 15 airbags, PRE-SAFE systems and Level 2 driver assistance technology. The car also gets Mercedes’ Digital Light system, advanced driver assistance features and GUARD 360-degree vehicle protection technology.

AIRMATIC air suspension is standard, while rear-axle steering can turn the rear wheels by up to 10 degrees. This is particularly useful on a car of this size, reducing the effort required during tight urban manoeuvres.

2026 Mercedes-Maybach S 580e vs Key Rivals

Mercedes-Maybach S 580e 3.0L PHEV Rs 3.35 crore
Bentley Flying Spur Petrol/PHEV, depending on variant Above Rs 5 crore

The Maybach sits below Rolls-Royce and Bentley in terms of starting price while targeting buyers who want an exceptionally luxurious rear cabin without moving completely away from Mercedes-Benz’s technology and service ecosystem.

Verdict

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class takes a different approach to ultra-luxury motoring in India. Instead of simply adding more power, the S 580e uses plug-in hybrid technology to make silent electric driving part of the Maybach experience while retaining petrol-powered long-distance capability.

At Rs 3.35 crore, it remains firmly in the ultra-luxury category, but the four-seat executive cabin, 585hp powertrain, 98km electric range, advanced suspension and extensive personalisation options give it a distinct proposition. For buyers who prioritise chauffeur-driven comfort and want electrification without committing to a fully electric luxury limousine, the S 580e is one of the most interesting new Maybach offerings in India.
