Maruti Suzuki to Launch CNG-Powered Swift Next Week

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the CNG variant of the Swift in India next week, with a price announcement expected on September 12, according to dealer sources. The Swift CNG will be based on the latest-generation hatchback that debuted with a petrol engine in May this year.

Key Highlights of the Swift CNG:

  • Offered in multiple trims, possibly across various variants.
  • Expected to feature a similar equipment list as the petrol Swift.
  • Equipped with a single-cylinder setup, consistent with other Maruti CNG models.
  • Powered by the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E engine, marking its first pairing with CNG.

The Swift CNG is anticipated to be priced around Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 higher than the corresponding petrol variants.

Maruti Suzuki’s CNG Ambitions:

Maruti Suzuki is aiming to bolster its CNG vehicle sales with the introduction of the Swift CNG, contributing to its broader goal of selling over 6 lakh CNG vehicles in FY25. Currently, CNG models account for 34 percent of Maruti’s total sales, with a 37 percent growth in sales compared to the previous year. Holding a dominant 73 percent share of the CNG car and SUV market in India, Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious target for FY25 aligns with the overall CNG vehicle sales achieved in FY24.
