Mahindra is preparing to expand the XEV 9e line-up by offering its larger 79kWh battery pack in a more accessible variant. A recent filing on the government’s vehicle portal confirms this update and aligns with earlier reports that the carmaker aims to broaden the appeal of its flagship EV.
New Battery-Variant Combinations
Currently, the high-capacity 79kWh battery is reserved solely for the top-end Pack Three trim. However, Mahindra will soon offer this larger battery with the Pack Three Select variant, which sits just below the top trim. Conversely, the Pack Three variant will also gain the option of the smaller 59kWh battery pack. This new flexibility should help Mahindra price the fully loaded Pack Three more competitively, making it accessible to a wider audience.
This move also reflects customer preferences, as Mahindra’s executive director Rajesh Jejurikar has previously acknowledged that EV buyers are leaning more towards extended driving range rather than additional features.
Variant Line-up and Specifications
The XEV 9e is available in four variants — Pack One, Pack Two, Pack Three Select, and Pack Three. It offers two battery configurations:

59kWh battery: 231hp, 380Nm, 542km range (ARAI)

79kWh battery: 286hp, 380Nm, 656km range (ARAI)
All variants are rear-wheel drive only. The Pack Three trim also includes premium features like ADAS and a head-up display, making it the most feature-rich option.
So far, deliveries have only begun for the top-spec Pack Three, while the newly launched Pack Three Select has just started reaching customers in June. Mahindra plans to begin deliveries of the lower Pack Two and Pack One trims in July and August, respectively.
Pricing and Future Plans
The Mahindra XEV 9e is currently priced between ₹22.65 lakh and ₹31.25 lakh (ex-showroom). With the new configurations, more buyers will be able to access the long-range version at a lower price point. Similar updates are also expected for the upcoming BE.06 electric SUV.
