Mahindra Unveils New M12Electro Formula E Car For Season 12 — Aiming For Its First Win Since 2021

Mahindra Racing has pulled the covers off its latest all-electric Formula E contender — the M12Electro. Set to compete in Formula E Season 12, the new machine symbolizes both evolution and ambition for the Indian outfit. Following a stellar Season 11, where Mahindra finished fourth in the Teams’ Championship, the team is now determined to return to the top step of the podium when the season begins with the Sao Paulo E-Prix on December 6, 2025.

Evolution of the M12Electro

Building on the solid foundations laid by last year’s M11Electro, the new M12Electro represents Mahindra’s steady progress since its difficult campaigns in Seasons 8 to 10. It’s not a radical overhaul but rather a meticulous refinement aimed at extracting every bit of performance before the next-gen Formula E cars debut in 2026.

The M12Electro wears a striking new livery, combining metallic red, gloss white, and carbon black, with 12 symbolic stripes — each representing Mahindra’s twelve years of participation as a founding Formula E team. The design also integrates Mahindra’s Born EV logo, connecting the race car to the company’s growing electric road-car lineup that includes the BE 6 and XEV 9e.

New Partnership With Valvoline

Mahindra has also announced a significant new technical partnership with Valvoline Global, marking the lubricants brand’s debut in Formula E. Together, the two companies are working on advanced e-fluids and gearbox technologies to enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance in high-stress racing conditions.

“Formula E is the ultimate test bed for innovation,” said Jamal Muashsher, CEO of Valvoline Global. “With Mahindra, we’re showcasing how performance and sustainability can coexist on the racetrack.”

Consistency First, Victory Next

Speaking about the team’s goals for Season 12, Frederic Bertrand, Mahindra Racing’s CEO and Team Principal, emphasized the importance of consistency and continuous improvement. “Last season, we built the foundation. Now we want to add the finishing touch — that taste of victory and the sound of the Indian national anthem on the podium,” he said.

The team scored five podium finishes in Season 11 — its best result in years — but victory narrowly eluded them. With the same driver lineup of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara, Mahindra hopes to bridge that final gap to the top.

Driver Insights

Former Formula E champion Nyck de Vries described the M12Electro as a “refined evolution” of its predecessor. He noted that in the final year of the current Gen3 cars, margins will be tighter than ever, making software optimization and attention to fine details the key differentiators between teams.

Kush Maini Continues As Reserve Driver

Indian racer Kush Maini will continue with Mahindra Racing as its reserve and development driver for a third season. Maini will take part in rookie tests, support simulator work, and attend several race weekends whenever his other commitments allow.

“I’m proud to remain part of the Mahindra family,” said Maini. “The team’s atmosphere is fantastic, and being involved in its rebuilding journey has been incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to keep contributing to its success.”

What’s Next

The official pre-season test for Formula E Season 12 will take place at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo from October 27–30, where teams will run their new cars for the first time. The M12Electro’s track debut there will offer the first real glimpse of Mahindra’s pace before the new season begins in December.
