The Mahindra Thar, introduced in October 2020, has surpassed the significant milestone of 2,00,000 unit sales in India. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Mahindra’s own sales data, total sales of the iconic SUV stood at 2,07,110 units as of October 2024. The 3-door Thar, a consistent favorite among enthusiasts, recently gained a boost from the launch of the 5-door Thar Roxx, broadening its appeal.
Key Drivers of Success
The second-generation Thar’s popularity stems from its balance between rugged off-road capability and everyday practicality. Equipped with modern interiors, advanced features, automatic transmission options, and improved driving comfort, the Thar’s 3-door variant has captured the hearts of adventure seekers and urban drivers alike.

Rising Demand for the Thar Roxx
The Thar Roxx, unveiled on August 14, 2024, and delivered to customers from October 12, has quickly gained traction. In September, Mahindra dispatched a record 8,843 units of the Thar, including 3,911 units of the 3-door and 4,932 units of the Roxx, marking the highest monthly wholesale figures for the brand since its launch.
This surge in demand has played a crucial role in Mahindra achieving back-to-back monthly sales records, with 51,062 units sold in September and an even higher 54,504 units in October. During these months, the Thar and Thar Roxx accounted for 17% and 14.57% of Mahindra’s total sales, respectively.
Enhanced Production to Meet Demand
In response to the strong market demand, Mahindra has ramped up production for the Thar and Thar Roxx. The combined monthly output, currently at 6,500 units, is set to increase to 9,500 units in the coming months.
The addition of the Thar Roxx has not only expanded the brand’s appeal but also solidified its position as one of Mahindra’s top-performing models, ensuring its continued dominance in the SUV market.
