Mahindra Thar Armada to Feature Panoramic Sunroof and ADAS Level 2

Mahindra’s eagerly awaited Thar 5-door, likely to be named the Thar Armada, is set to introduce several first-in-class features, including a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), according to Autocar India.

Pioneering Features for Ladder-Frame SUVs

The Thar Armada will be the first ladder-frame SUV in India to boast a panoramic sunroof. Spy shots have revealed that the top-end variant will feature a dual-pane sunroof, while the mid-spec version will have a single-pane sunroof. This makes the Thar 5-door the sole ladder-frame SUV in the country with such a feature.

Advanced Safety and Technology

The top-tier variants will be equipped with Level 2 ADAS, potentially offering features like lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, and assistance, enhancing both safety and driving comfort. Additionally, the SUV will come with dual 10.25-inch displays—one for the touchscreen infotainment system and another for the fully digital instrument cluster—alongside all-LED lighting.

Variety of Engine Options

The Thar Armada will offer three powertrains: a 1.5-litre diesel engine for the entry-level variant to maintain a competitive price point, a 2.2-litre diesel, and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The 1.5-litre diesel model will likely feature rear-wheel drive, while the 4WD option will be available with the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol variants.

Design and Customization

Customers will have the choice of three wheel designs: basic steel wheels for the entry-level models, alloy wheels for the mid-spec versions, and premium diamond-cut alloys for the top-end trims.

Market Position and Competition

Though Mahindra has not officially announced the launch date, unofficial bookings for the Thar Armada have begun at the dealership level. Upon its release, this lifestyle SUV will compete with the newly launched Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Jimny. It will also present an alternative to midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The Mahindra Thar Armada promises to combine rugged off-road capability with modern features and advanced safety technologies, making it a highly anticipated addition to the Indian SUV market.
