A near-production prototype of the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup truck has been spotted undergoing testing in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. This test mule appears to be an advanced iteration of the Mahindra Global Pik Up concept unveiled in 2023. At the time of its reveal, Mahindra had confirmed that the concept would evolve into a production-ready model, built on a next-generation ladder-frame chassis, with a global debut expected in 2025.
Design Highlights
Spy images reveal the front and side profile of the pickup truck, showcasing design elements reminiscent of the Scorpio N SUV. The test model retains the SUV’s LED headlight signature, alloy wheels, and front fascia, reinforcing its Scorpio lineage. However, unlike the dual-cab Global Pik Up concept, this test mule features a single-cab layout with an extended cargo bed and a longer rear overhang. While the front closely resembles the Scorpio N, the concept version had a different grille and a revised bumper design with a tow hook, indicating that Mahindra may offer distinct styling for different markets.
Expected Powertrain
The Scorpio N pickup truck is likely to be powered by the familiar 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, producing 175hp and up to 400Nm of torque. Transmission options may include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Given its rugged, utility-focused nature, the pickup is expected to come equipped with four-wheel drive and terrain-specific drive modes such as Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, and Sand.
Launch and Market Positioning
While Mahindra has yet to confirm a launch timeline, an India debut seems unlikely for now. Instead, the Scorpio N pickup truck is expected to launch in South Africa first, with Mahindra evaluating its potential for other international markets before considering an India launch.
