KTM RC 160 Launched in India at Rs 1.85 Lakh: Price, Specs, Features and Rivals

KTM has expanded its supersport portfolio in India with the launch of the KTM RC 160, priced at Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Introduced just a few months after the 160 Duke, the RC 160 becomes the most affordable fully faired motorcycle in KTM’s Indian line-up, sitting below the RC 200 and RC 390.

Designed to attract riders looking for an entry-level sportbike with aggressive styling and proven mechanicals, the RC 160 goes head-to-head with the ever-popular Yamaha R15.

KTM RC 160: Engine and Performance

The RC 160 is built on the same platform as the 160 Duke and uses the 164.2cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Output figures remain unchanged:

  • Power: 19hp at 9,500rpm

  • Torque: 15.5Nm at 7,500rpm

The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and comes equipped with an assist-and-slipper clutch as standard. According to KTM, the RC 160 can achieve a top speed of 118kph, making it a capable performer for both city riding and highway runs.

Chassis, Suspension and Braking

Under the sharp RC bodywork lies familiar hardware:

  • Front suspension: 37mm USD forks

  • Rear suspension: Monoshock

  • Tyres: 110-section front and 140-section rear on 17-inch alloy wheels

Braking duties are handled by a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc, supported by dual-channel ABS. Riders also get KTM’s Supermoto ABS mode, which allows limited rear-wheel slip for a more engaging riding experience.

Features and Equipment

In terms of features, the KTM RC 160 offers:

  • All-LED lighting (headlamp, tail-lamp and indicators)

  • LCD instrument cluster

Unlike the recently updated 160 Duke, which now gets a TFT display, KTM has not yet confirmed a TFT option for the RC 160. Kerb weight details are also awaited, though the RC 160 is expected to weigh slightly more than the Duke’s 147kg, owing to its full fairing.

Price and Competition

At Rs 1.85 lakh, the KTM RC 160 is priced around Rs 15,000 higher than the 160 Duke. It is also approximately Rs 19,000 more expensive than the Yamaha R15, its closest rival in the entry-level supersport segment.

Verdict

With aggressive styling, solid performance figures and premium hardware like USD forks and dual-channel ABS, the KTM RC 160 positions itself as a compelling option for riders wanting a fully faired KTM experience at a relatively accessible price point. While it commands a premium over the Yamaha R15, it offers KTM’s trademark performance-focused setup and sharp design in return.
