KTM’s upcoming supermoto, the 390 SMC R, has been spotted undergoing tests in India, signaling its potential launch in 2025. First unveiled at EICMA 2024, this model has generated significant buzz for its unique positioning in the Indian market. Here’s a closer look at what the spy shots reveal.
Design and Features
Based on the KTM Adventure 390 S and Enduro R platforms, the 390 SMC R showcases a supermoto-oriented design. The test mule features 17-inch wire-spoke wheels, consistent with the prototype displayed at EICMA. While the spy shots don’t provide a detailed view of the bike’s aesthetics, the rider’s upright posture aligns with traditional supermoto ergonomics.
Performance and Powertrain
The 390 SMC R is expected to share the same 399cc liquid-cooled engine found in the KTM 390 Duke, delivering 45 hp and 39 Nm of torque via a 6-speed gearbox. While the exact tuning for the SMC R hasn’t been disclosed, it’s anticipated to have a revised final drive ratio to optimize performance for supermoto-style riding.
A Unique Proposition for India
India’s supermoto segment, particularly in the sub-500cc category, remains largely untapped. With its local manufacturing and performance-focused design, the KTM 390 SMC R could establish itself as a game-changer when it arrives in 2025, offering enthusiasts a fresh and dynamic riding experience.
