KTM is all set to launch the 390 Enduro R in India on April 11, bringing a more off-road-focused option to its 390 lineup. Based on the same platform as the new 390 Adventure, the Enduro R is tailored for serious trail riding and rugged terrain.
A True Off-Roader with Familiar Foundations
The 390 Enduro R is powered by the well-known 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that delivers 46hp and 39Nm of torque — the same output seen on the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure. It also shares its main frame and swingarm with the latest-generation 390 Adventure, but the similarities largely end there.
Designed for off-road performance, the bike features a smaller 285mm front disc (paired with a 240mm rear disc) and rolls on wire-spoke wheels — 21 inches up front and 18 inches at the rear — a setup that’s standard in serious dirt machines.
India-Spec Changes: Lower Seat, Slightly Less Ground Clearance
For the Indian market, KTM has equipped the Enduro R with the same suspension setup as the 390 Adventure. That translates to 200mm of front and 205mm of rear suspension travel. As a result, the seat height has been brought down to a more manageable 860mm, compared to the 890mm on the global model. Ground clearance has also slightly dropped from 272mm to 253mm.
Despite these tweaks, the Enduro R retains its minimalistic and purposeful design. It comes with a compact TFT display, a 9-litre fuel tank, and weighs in at 177kg — about 5-6kg lighter than the Adventure variants.
Price Positioning and Rivals
The KTM 390 Enduro R is expected to be priced between the 390 Adventure X and the standard 390 Adventure. At this price point, its primary competitor in India will be the Kawasaki KLX230 — a lighter but less powerful motorcycle.
With adjustable suspension, proper off-road wheels, and KTM’s proven performance DNA, the 390 Enduro R is shaping up to be a compelling choice for adventure and trail enthusiasts in India.
