KTM 125 Series to Be Replaced by More Powerful 160cc Models in India

KTM India is reportedly gearing up for a major update to its entry-level lineup by phasing out the 125 Duke and RC 125. In their place, the company is expected to introduce the 160 Duke and RC 160, offering increased power and better performance. These new models will compete directly with Yamaha’s popular 155cc bikes, such as the R15 V4 and MT-15 V2.

Expected Launch and Pricing

The current KTM 125 models are priced at ₹1.81 lakh (Duke) and ₹1.92 lakh (RC 125). Given these prices, the upcoming 160cc bikes are unlikely to be positioned below Yamaha’s 155cc range, where the R15 V4 costs between ₹1.83 lakh and ₹2.10 lakh, while the MT-15 V2 is priced between ₹1.69 lakh and ₹1.74 lakh.

The 160 Duke is expected to launch by mid-2025, likely just before the festive season, while the RC 160 could follow in early 2026.

More Power and Performance

The upcoming 160cc engine is expected to be a downsized version of the 200cc motor that powers the 200 Duke and RC 200. Reports suggest it will produce between 18-20PS, a noticeable upgrade from the outgoing 125cc models that delivered just 14.5PS. This boost in power should significantly enhance performance and appeal to enthusiasts looking for a more exciting ride.

Why the Shift to 160cc?

KTM’s decision to replace the 125cc range likely stems from the models’ struggling sales. Despite their premium branding, the high price tag made them less competitive against alternatives like the TVS Raider and Hero Xtreme 125R. The new 160cc models are expected to be tailored for the Indian market, balancing affordability and performance.

Feature Expectations

KTM is expected to equip the 160 Duke and RC 160 with features similar to the 200cc range. This could include:

  • Dual-channel ABS for improved braking safety
  • TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation
  • Full-LED lighting for a premium look and better visibility
  • Switchable rear ABS, enhancing control in aggressive riding conditions

Chassis and Design

The new 160 series will likely share its platform with the 200 Duke and RC 200, including the lightweight trellis frame, 43mm upside-down forks, and monoshock suspension. KTM’s signature sharp, aggressive design and iconic orange color scheme are expected to continue, ensuring a bold presence on the road.

Final Thoughts

While KTM has yet to confirm these reports officially, the introduction of a 160cc platform could be a game-changer in the 150-160cc segment. With strong rivals like Yamaha’s R15 and MT-15 already dominating, KTM’s success will depend on how well it balances pricing, features, and performance. If priced competitively, the 160 Duke and RC 160 could carve out a strong foothold in India’s entry-level performance motorcycle market.
