KTM 125 Duke & RC 125 to Be Discontinued in India Soon

KTM is set to pull the plug on its entry-level 125 Duke and RC 125 motorcycles in India. According to our dealer sources, most of the 125 Duke stock has already been cleared from showrooms, while the RC 125 remains available until the remaining units are sold. A formal announcement from KTM regarding the discontinuation is expected soon.

Why Is KTM Discontinuing the 125cc Models?

The primary reason behind the discontinuation is the steep decline in sales. Production figures for the KTM 125cc lineup dropped significantly from 1,692 units in January 2024 to just 33 units in January 2025. Sales figures paint an even grimmer picture, with only 17 units sold in January 2025, compared to 230 units in the same month last year.

One of the key factors affecting sales is the high price tag of these motorcycles. The 125 Duke is priced at ₹1,81,030, while the RC 125 costs ₹1,91,795 (both ex-showroom Delhi). At similar price points, buyers have more compelling alternatives like the Yamaha R15 V4 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, both of which offer better value and performance. Additionally, the KTM 200 Duke, which comes with a more powerful engine and added features, is available for just ₹23,000 more, making the 125cc models a less attractive option.

Both the 125 Duke and RC 125 are powered by a 124.7cc single-cylinder engine, producing 14.5PS and 12Nm of torque, which, given the competition, may not justify their premium pricing.

KTM’s Strategy Moving Forward

KTM has been navigating financial challenges in recent times, with a restructuring plan recently approved by its creditors. One of the major concerns has been excess inventory build-up, prompting the brand to streamline its product lineup. The discontinuation of the 125cc models appears to be a strategic move to focus on motorcycles that drive higher sales and profitability.

With this shift, KTM is likely to emphasize its more popular and performance-oriented offerings, ensuring a more competitive and sustainable presence in the Indian market.
