Kawasaki has introduced the KLX230 in India, priced at ₹3.30 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it the priciest road-legal dual-sport motorcycle currently available in the country.
Engine and Mechanical Highlights
The KLX230 is powered by a 233cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that delivers 18.1hp at 8,000rpm and 18.3Nm of peak torque at 6,400rpm. It comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox and features a compact 7.6-liter fuel tank. The bike’s suspension setup includes a 37mm telescopic fork at the front with 240mm of travel and a monoshock at the rear offering 250mm of travel, emphasizing its off-road prowess.
Features and Build
Weighing just 139kg, the KLX230 is designed to be lightweight and agile. It boasts a tall 880mm seat height, although Kawasaki offers an optional lower seat to cater to shorter riders. The bike includes a basic monotone LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and is equipped with dual-channel ABS for added safety.
Market Position and Competition
The KLX230 faces competition from the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and its Pro variant, priced at ₹1.51 lakh and ₹1.64 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Despite its premium pricing, nearly double that of its closest rivals, the KLX230 aims to stand out with its off-road capabilities. However, its steep price tag and Kawasaki’s limited service network could deter potential buyers.
With its lightweight design and rugged build, the KLX230 is poised as a capable option for enthusiasts, albeit at a significant premium.
