In the latest round of Global NCAP crash tests, the 2023 Hyundai Verna, a popular sedan, has secured a remarkable 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection. This achievement marks a significant milestone as the new Verna becomes the first made-in-India Hyundai car to attain the highest safety rating.
Adult Occupant Protection
Frontal Impact (64kmph)
The Hyundai Verna scored an impressive 28.18 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection. It delivered ‘good’ protection for the driver and passenger’s head and neck. While the driver’s chest protection was rated as ‘marginal,’ the passenger’s chest received a ‘good’ rating. Both the driver and passenger’s knees showed ‘marginal’ protection, and tibias were rated ‘adequate’ for the driver and ‘good and adequate’ for the passenger. The footwell area and bodyshell were found to be ‘unstable,’ making the car incapable of withstanding further loadings.
Side Impact (50kmph)
In the side impact test, the Verna provided ‘good’ protection to the head, abdomen, and pelvis, with ‘adequate’ protection for the chest.
Side Pole Impact (29kmph)
The curtain airbags on the Hyundai Verna provided ‘good’ protection to the head and pelvis, ‘marginal’ coverage for the chest, and ‘adequate’ protection for the abdomen. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) of the sedan met fitment rate requirements and performed acceptably according to Global NCAP’s latest standards.
Child Occupant Protection
Frontal Impact (64kmph)
Child seats for both a 3-year-old and a 1.5-year-old dummy were installed facing rearward. They successfully prevented head exposure during the frontal impact test, offering full protection.
Side Impact (50kmph)
During the side impact test, both child restraint systems (CRS) provided full protection.
