Hyundai is gearing up to strengthen its premium portfolio in India with the introduction of the Palisade SUV in 2028. This development is part of the brand’s ambitious plan to roll out 26 new models in India by 2030. While the Bayon will target the compact SUV segment, the Palisade will arrive as Hyundai’s new flagship model in the country.
Palisade to Debut with Hybrid Powertrain in India
For the Indian market, the Palisade will be offered with a new-generation hybrid setup based around a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. This powertrain delivers a combined output of 334hp and 460Nm of torque. Hyundai claims the hybrid system boosts fuel efficiency by 45%, power by 19%, and torque by 9% over a standard petrol 2.5L engine. The Palisade also boasts a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.1kpl and an impressive driving range of up to 1,015km on a full tank.
Globally, Hyundai also offers the Palisade with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, but for India, the focus will remain solely on the hybrid variant. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed automatic gearbox, with front-wheel drive as standard. An all-wheel-drive option will also be available.
Advanced Driving Dynamics and Comfort Features
Hyundai is equipping the Palisade hybrid with cutting-edge ride and handling technologies. A new ‘e-Comfort Drive’ system actively smoothens ride quality by minimizing vertical body movement over speed bumps and reducing pitch during acceleration.
For handling, the ‘e-Dynamic Drive’ suite includes:
-
e-DTVC: Torque vectoring via electric motor and braking to reduce understeer in corners.
-
e-EHA: Enhances grip under sudden steering changes to minimize skidding.
-
e-Handling: Dynamically distributes torque while turning for improved stability.
Bold Design Inspired by Premium SUVs
Unveiled globally in late 2024, the new Palisade features a robust and boxy design that draws some visual inspiration from Range Rover SUVs. Highlights include vertical LED lighting elements, a broad grille, large 21-inch alloy wheels with 15 spokes, and silver accents on the body cladding, roof rails, and D-pillars.
Premium Cabin Packed with Features
The Palisade’s interior is equally impressive, offering a three-row configuration that accommodates up to eight passengers. For added luxury, buyers can opt for individual captain seats in the second row, complete with reclining functions and deployable footrests.
Tech and comfort features include:
-
Dual 12.3-inch screens (infotainment and instrument cluster)
-
Fingerprint-based ignition and valet mode
-
Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
-
14-speaker Bose audio system
-
Panoramic sunroof
-
Wireless phone charging
-
Ventilated and powered seats
-
Digital key and built-in dashcam
-
360-degree camera with rear camera washer
-
Full ADAS suite
-
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging capability
Expected Price and Launch Strategy
With Hyundai planning local assembly of the Palisade, the SUV is expected to carry an ex-showroom price in the range of ₹40–50 lakh. This approach not only makes the vehicle more competitively priced but also allows Hyundai to potentially use India as an export base for the Palisade.
