The wait for a Honda electric scooter in India has been a long one, marked by delays and speculation. However, there’s now a confirmed timeline: Honda’s CEO, Tsutsumu Otani, has announced that the company’s electric scooter will be officially launched in March 2025.
Honda Electric Scooter: What We Know So Far
Earlier reports highlighted that Honda has established a dedicated production line for electric two-wheelers at its Karnataka plant, with production expected to kick off in December 2024, just ahead of the March 2025 launch.
Details about the upcoming Honda e-scooter remain scarce, including its official name. Speculations suggest it might be branded as the “Activa Electric,” leveraging the massive popularity of the Activa brand. However, whether Honda will choose such a direct branding approach is yet to be confirmed.
As for the powertrain, specifics are still under wraps. Currently, only the Vida V1 models offer removable batteries in the Indian market, with most other mainstream e-scooters opting for fixed battery packs. Honda, which already operates a small network of battery-swapping stations in select metro cities, has yet to reveal whether its e-scooter will feature a fixed or swappable battery.
Last year, Honda announced plans for two electric scooters for the Indian market: one with a fixed battery pack and another with a swappable one. It remains to be seen which model will hit the market first and when the second will follow.
