Honda is gearing up to give the fifth-generation City a second facelift in India in the second half of 2026. Originally launched in 2020 and updated once in 2023, the midsize sedan will receive this refresh to stay competitive until the all-new, sixth-generation Honda City arrives in 2028. With rivals like the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia also due for updates around the same time, Honda’s move aims to keep the City relevant in a fast-evolving segment.
2026 Honda City facelift: exterior changes expected
While test mules are yet to be spotted, the 2026 Honda City facelift is expected to focus primarily on styling updates. The revised sedan is likely to draw design inspiration from Honda’s global lineup, including the latest Civic. Changes could include a redesigned front grille, refreshed bumpers, updated LED headlamps and tail-lamps, and new alloy wheel designs. These tweaks should give the City a more contemporary look without altering its overall silhouette.
Interior updates likely to be subtle
Inside, the Honda City facelift for 2026 is expected to receive minor enhancements rather than a complete overhaul. Updates could include new trim finishes, refreshed upholstery and small cosmetic revisions to improve the cabin’s premium appeal. The dashboard layout and feature list are likely to remain largely unchanged, though Honda may introduce a few additions, such as an optional 360-degree camera system similar to the one offered on the Elevate SUV.
Engine and transmission options to remain unchanged
Mechanically, the 2026 Honda City facelift will continue with the same powertrain options. The standard petrol version will retain the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine, producing 121hp and 145Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic.
Honda will also continue to offer the City e:HEV hybrid, which uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor for a total system output of 126hp, mated to a CVT transmission.
Positioned as a bridge to the next-generation City
This second facelift will act as a transitional update, helping Honda extend the lifecycle of the current City until the next-generation model debuts in 2028. With refreshed styling, minor interior upgrades and proven powertrains, the 2026 Honda City facelift is expected to maintain its strong appeal among midsize sedan buyers in India.
