BYD has introduced the Sealion 05 EV, marking its eighth all-electric SUV. Built on a brand-new technology platform, the Sealion 05 EV will be available in two variants, both equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye C ADAS system as standard.
Key Highlights:
- New Entry-Level Model: Expands the Sealion range with an all-electric version.
- Advanced Safety Features: Comes standard with BYD’s God’s Eye C ADAS system.
- Performance & Efficiency: Rear-wheel drive, up to 214hp, and a claimed range of 520km.
Exterior & Design
While BYD already offers a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Sealion 05 in select markets, the EV variant stands out with a fresh design and revised dimensions. At the front, a sleek connected LED headlight setup—similar to the Atto 3—enhances its modern appeal. The bumper integrates cameras and sensors, while a wide air dam with a silver skid plate and vertical air intakes gives it a rugged touch.
The SUV’s side profile features thick plastic cladding with body-colored inserts, stylish black-and-silver wheels, and a blacked-out portion on the D-pillar, creating a floating roof effect. At the rear, a smoked-effect LED light bar, illuminated BYD logo, and roof spoiler complete its striking look.
Dimensions & Weight
Compared to its plug-in hybrid counterpart, the all-electric Sealion 05 is slightly smaller overall but boasts a longer wheelbase of 2,720mm (an 8mm increase). It measures 4,520mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,630mm in height. Depending on the variant, it weighs either 1,670kg or 1,780kg.
Battery & Performance
The Sealion 05 EV adopts a rear-wheel-drive, single-motor configuration and is claimed to have a class-leading turning radius. Two battery pack options are available:
- 50kWh Battery: Produces 188hp with a claimed range of 430km.
- 60.9kWh Battery: Delivers 214hp and extends the range to 520km.
Both variants have an electronically limited top speed of 180kph.
Launch & Market Availability
BYD will officially launch the Sealion 05 EV in China on March 25. While the company has been evaluating an electric SUV in the ₹20 lakh price range for India, the Atto 2 is currently a more likely candidate than the Sealion 05 EV for the Indian market.
