The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is set to become even more appealing with upcoming enhancements to its battery technology. Reports indicate that Bajaj is planning to introduce new battery cells that will significantly extend the range of the Chetak, making it more accessible and attractive to a wider customer base.
A recent report suggests that the upgraded battery cells, sourced from a different supplier, will notably improve the range of the Bajaj Chetak. This development follows the launch of the Chetak 3201 Special Edition, which will be available only until the end of August 2024. Interestingly, despite its lower price point compared to the Premium variant, the 3201 Special Edition boasts a superior claimed range of 136 km, which is 10 km more than the Premium’s 126 km, despite both variants being powered by the same 3.2 kWh battery pack. The report highlights that the 3201 Special Edition’s improved range is due to the newer battery technology, which boosts performance even with the same battery capacity as the Premium variant.
Furthermore, the report indicates that the naming convention for the Chetak electric line-up may be updated with the introduction of the new battery packs. The 2901 variant, launched earlier this year with a 2.9 kWh battery, was the first to adopt this new naming scheme. It is speculated that the Premium and Urbane variants could be renamed as 3201 and 3202, respectively, once they receive the new battery technology.
The Bajaj Chetak remains one of the top-selling electric scooters in India’s two-wheeler market. With competitive pricing and the addition of this new battery technology, offering an extended range, the Bajaj Chetak line-up is poised to become even more attractive to consumers.
