All-New Hyundai KONA Gets Bolder, More Dynamic, EV-led Design with Unique Styling Across a Range of Powertrains

  • Hyundai started with the electric vehicle version of the KONA to bring technology-driven design thinking to all of the models in the KONA range.
  • The four versions of the subcompact SUV, including the EV, ICE/HEV, and the sporty N Line, will all have the same structure but different looks.
  • The upscaled KONA has a strong presence on the road and a driver-focused interior with flexible living space that meets both practical and aesthetic needs.

PRNewswire, 19 December 2022, SEOUL, South Korea — Hyundai Motor Company showed off its next-generation KONA subcompact SUV today. It has a futuristic design that was inspired by electric vehicles (EVs). The upgraded model will come in four styles: all-electric, hybrid electric, internal combustion engine, and sporty N Line. They will all have the same basic structure, but each will look different.

SangYup Lee, Head of Hyundai Design Center, said, “The all-new KONA confidently expresses its bold and dynamic presence by taking KONA’s unique personality to the next level.” “KONA has changed in every way to support a wider range of lifestyles and a wider variety of people.”

The more expensive KONA looks more dynamic on the road and has more “living space.”

The all-new KONA has become a bigger SUV that is still geared toward city life. It has a bolder design that gives it a more dynamic road presence and a driver-focused interior. Based on the EV version, the length of the all-new model grew by 150 mm from the previous generation to 4,355 mm. This was done to give customers as much “living space” as possible.

Unlike most cars, which come with a variety of powertrains, the KONA was designed first as an EV. Then, the design was changed to fit the ICE, HEV, and N Line models. With this nontraditional approach, Hyundai was able to put tech at the centre of the design of all KONA models. Even though they all use the same architecture, the EV, ICE/HEV, and sporty N Line models all have their own futuristic looks.

The clean, unique nose of the all-new KONA is a sign of the front end’s pure volume, which helps the model’s smooth aerodynamic performance. The stretched Seamless Horizon Lamp, which is pixelated on the EV version, emphasises the car’s pure volume. This is the first Hyundai model to have a Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp, which adds to the EV’s unique look. KONA’s use of Parametric Pixels brings back a unique design feature from Hyundai’s popular line of electric vehicles.

With its driver-focused layout and useful features, it is easy to use and fits your lifestyle.

The “living space” inside the all-new KONA is bigger, which means it has more useful features and a better in-car experience to fit a variety of lifestyles. The EV-derived universal architecture allows for a sporty layout with a floating horizontal C-Pad that highlights the KONA’s slim and wide interior and gives the driver and passengers a lot of space to move around in.

The dual wide 12.3-inch displays and floating module make it look like a high-tech device. Ambient lighting makes things easier and better for the user. With the column-by-wire shifter moved from the center console to behind the steering wheel, the interior is less cluttered and the central tunnel has more room for things.
