6 Key Things to Know About the Volvo EX30 Ahead of Its India Launch

Volvo is gearing up to introduce the EX30 in India this September, marking its smallest and most affordable electric SUV yet. Built as the brand’s first ground-up EV, the EX30 blends Scandinavian minimalism, sustainable design, and Volvo’s well-known focus on safety. With deliveries scheduled to begin in October, here are six things you should know about this upcoming luxury EV.

1. Expected Price in India

The EX30 is likely to arrive with a price tag of around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it directly in the entry-level luxury EV bracket. Deliveries are set to commence in October 2025, shortly after its September debut.

2. Rivals in the Segment

Once launched, the EX30 will face stiff competition from a range of premium EVs, including the BMW iX1 LWB (₹49.90 lakh), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (₹46.30 lakh), Kia EV6 (₹65.97 lakh), BYD Sealion 7 (₹48.90–54.90 lakh), and Mercedes-Benz EQA (₹67.20 lakh).

3. Powertrain Options

For India, the EX30 will be offered with a 69kWh NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery paired with a rear-mounted electric motor. This setup delivers 272hp and 343Nm, along with an 8-year warranty. While international markets also get a smaller 51kWh LFP version, Volvo won’t be offering it here at launch.

4. Range and Charging

On paper, the 69kWh battery claims a 480km WLTP-certified range. In real-world conditions, expect closer to 350km, which should be sufficient for city and occasional highway use. Charging options include:

  • 7.4kW AC charger: ~10.5 hours (0–100%)

  • 11kW AC charger: ~7 hours

  • 150kW DC fast charger: ~25 minutes

5. Driving Experience

Despite the strong numbers, the EX30 is designed more for calm, everyday driving than outright thrills. It does 0–100kph in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 180kph, but power delivery is smooth and relaxed. The suspension setup is slightly firm due to the battery weight, yet remains comfortable over rough patches. Handling feels neutral, with minimal body roll and a useful one-pedal driving mode for traffic.

6. Features and Cabin Experience

Inside, the EX30 sticks to Volvo’s eco-friendly philosophy, using recycled and sustainable materials instead of traditional leather. The centerpiece of the cabin is a 12.3-inch vertical touchscreen, which controls nearly all functions — from climate settings to mirror adjustments — eliminating the need for a conventional instrument cluster.

Other highlights include:

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto

  • 360-degree camera system

  • Harman Kardon soundbar audio with subwoofer

  • Glass roof

  • Electrically adjustable driver’s seat

  • Level 2 ADAS safety suite

The Bottom Line

The Volvo EX30 promises to be a stylish, eco-conscious, and well-equipped entry into the premium EV space. With its blend of sustainability, safety, and everyday usability, it could be an appealing choice for buyers looking for a luxury EV under ₹50 lakh.
